I think I want some non white trainers, but what? And are Veja comfy?

I think I would like some black or dark coloured trainers this autumn/winter. I like the look of Veja but I've heard the tongue comes up quite high and they dig in?
Any other suggestions? Has anyone bought anything nice?

Veja are very stylish and go with everything and yes the tongue is high up and can dig in, but once you wear them in, they are soooo comfy!!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 07/09/2020 09:26

I have Veja Esplars in black with white - I found them as uncomfortable to break in as DMs! I do like them, but prefer my black Stan Smiths.

HarrietM87 · 07/09/2020 09:27

I love my black Adidas gazelles. But think I might get some Vejas too!

Honorocarrollkelly · 07/09/2020 11:13

Thanks all. Yes, I've seen them on people and they look stylish, and go with everything. I have had white Stan Smiths on and off for a while now in white, and feel the need for a change.
I was eyeing the Nike sage low in black but think I'll go Veja.

I sold my Vejas on eBay at a huge loss Sad They looked really nice but they were like wearing bricks. I dreaded putting them on!

AndAllOurYesterdays · 07/09/2020 11:17

I have very fussy feet, and can't wear many fashionable trainers, but I like my Vejas a lot. Once they softened up they became very comfortable

oiboi · 07/09/2020 11:50

I've just bought the leather vejas and find them really comfy. I've tortured my feet with cons and dms for so long they were like slippers!

aintnothinbutagstring · 07/09/2020 12:17

I got some Vejas, I didn't find the tongue to be a problem particularly. I'm not sure if I got the sizing right, my feet are a bit awkward and are really a 40.5 so I got an 8 in the Vejas and there was a wee bit of slipping on the heel which caused blisters. So I'm not sure if they will feel a bit too big once fully worn in, as the leather is quite firm when new. And I'll likely wear thicker socks come winter. Other than that, they are comfortable now after wearing a few times and look lovely, go with everything. Check the sizing is my advice!

FreeButtonBee · 07/09/2020 12:25

I love mine. Took a little bit of time to break in and I advise wearing ankle covering socks while you do (just normal socks) as the tongue takes a bit of time to soften. But they are super comfy. I have worn mine to death and have a brand new pair waiting to be worn but my old ones are sooo comfy now.😂

Does anyone know where to grt replacement laces? Mummy old ones are done and the cheapo amazon pair are too white and look awful (still wear them though).

MikeUniformMike · 07/09/2020 13:00

Tried Vejas on and they were far too uncomfortable to buy.

IslaBas · 07/09/2020 13:04

Vejas are far too “mum uniform” now.

Veja
Breton
Skinny jeans
Yellow raincoat

Gazelles are much nicer. If you are looking to spend £££ then Golden Goose . They are super comfortable

IHaveBrilloHair · 07/09/2020 13:38

I've just bought black Superga high tops which are very me, but probably not v stylish!

DameCelia · 07/09/2020 13:50

Woden?
Very comfortable and different enough that not everyone is wearing them, if thats important to you

I first tried Veja a year ago and I wouldn't wear any other trainer now. They were comfortable from the moment I put them on. I haven't had any problem with the tongue being too high (I wear the Esplar) - and I thought I might, because I have short, stubby ankles (delightful, I know). My feet are quite wide and they just seem perfect for me.

notwavingbutdrowning5 · 07/09/2020 16:26

IslaBas, I think Vejas can be 'mum uniform' when worn as you describe - but there are many other ways to wear them.

RememberBlazinSquad · 07/09/2020 16:27

I think calling anything 'mum uniform' is a bit crass! I also don't know anyone who dresses like that Confused

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 07/09/2020 16:39

I'm not a mum, but I tend to wear my Vejas with midi length dresses, or barrel leg jeans. Sometimes with black opaque tights and a leather mini skirt.

I'm a lecturer and quite a few of my female students (in their late teens/early 20s) wear them.

BlanketBaby · 07/09/2020 16:39

A good staple black trainer / sneaker for me has to be Vans old skool - they are easy to wear and go with absolutely everything. I like the Veja too but prefer the white velcro lock ones personally.

Ellapaella · 07/09/2020 17:46

I have Veja campo and they are the comfiest trainers I own. I have quite wide feet and they're perfect. The tongues are high but not to the point of looking odd or being uncomfortable. I have these ones.

I think I want some non white trainers, but what? And are Veja comfy?
Honorocarrollkelly · 07/09/2020 20:16

I really don’t like Vans, and the Woden ones are a bit too like sport trainers. I saw the trendiest woman the other day, she oozed cool, and she had Veja trainers.
Going to go in to town on Thursday and try on if allowed!

Although I am faithful to my Vejas, I love this new range of trainers from Me and Em. Hideously expensive though - which at least has the advantage of making Vejas look cheap.

I have a couple of pairs of Vejas and they are so comfy and have bee from the first time I started wearing them. I have wide feet too like a pp who also finds them comfy so there may be something in that. I'm also contemplating getting a black pair for winter.

FreeButtonBee · 08/09/2020 15:53

I like those me and em ones apart from the really tacky 'motivation text'!

I wore my new ones yesterday and they were a bit sore on the heels I must admit (only wore on the school run and back) so it will take me a bit of time to break them in. V comfy on the toes though - agree they suit a slightly wider foot.

Bloomburger · 08/09/2020 16:08

Air & Grace are nice and v v comfortable and not as common as Veja (DH has a pair of Veja and he is the last person to pick up on trends so if he has them they're over!)
