I am naturally dark brown but quite grey now though .

Anyhow , I have attached photos of what I hoped my colour would be and my hair .

Here is a photo of my hair before I had it done

Its a bit mousy. I think your base colour should have been darker for what you're looking for with balayage to get the look.

Did you just get an all over head dye?

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 01/09/2020 17:38

Re-read and realised you're going quite grey... the lighter colour may have been to combat the inevitable grey root issue which is always more obvious with darker hair.

Your hair colour now seems manageable and the same tone as your underlying hair colour which will help mask greys. If you're willing to put in the upkeep and get your roots done regularly then I'd definitely go darker to get the look you want.

Charliescar · 01/09/2020 17:39

@TrollTheRespawnJeremy I had foils and then she painted some darker bits through and left some of my hair uncoloured .

It cost £120 with a cut but I am not entirely happy.

Thanks @TrollTheRespawnJeremy I did tell her I didn’t mind the upkeep . I even showed her a picture of me 18 months ago with really dark hair .

I kind of got the feeling she didn’t want to do it to dark . It looks a bit mousey and ashy and not great with my skin tone

Charliescar · 01/09/2020 17:42

I think I also wanted the roots to be darker ? That’s what was in the picture i showed isn’t it .

Oh that seems like a lot of faff for it to come out so homogenous. Poor colour choice on her part especially if you'd stressed that you don't mind the upkeep.

Give them a call and just tell them you look washed out and you're not happy with the colour. You might be able to correct it with some lowlights.

You have a lovely head of hair and I'd be gutted to come out with it looking as boring when I'd expected something with a bit more life to it. The actual dye job is fine- but it's definitely not what you asked for.

hastingsmua1 · 01/09/2020 17:45

I don’t think it looks like the photo as you have all one colour, whereas the photo looks like a balayage with darker roots and highlighted lighter sections. There’s no contrast. The lady has highlights at the sides of her face (money pieces) and you do it.

hopeishere · 01/09/2020 17:45

Yeah it's all a bit solid mouse. The pics are darker (I think Kat Farmer's hair is naturally dark) with blonde highlights. You need darker roots.

hastingsmua1 · 01/09/2020 17:45

You do not*

Mooserp · 01/09/2020 17:46

It's fine but more ashy than golden. For the amount you paid I wouldn't be happy to

(What is it with hairdressers styling everyone's hair in that twisty style?)

LunaNorth · 01/09/2020 17:47

It’s a bit flat. I think it’s a nice base colour and could easily be rescued. Go back!

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 01/09/2020 17:49

I think the twisty curls is easier than doing a proper straight and shape. Hides all manner of sins.
BlusteryShowers · 01/09/2020 17:51

I agree- it doesn't look like £120 's worth of colour work. I love Kat's hair too!

AbyssusAbyssumInvocat · 01/09/2020 17:55

It looks lovely but I think it looked more like your example photos before you had it done. She hasn't done what you asked at all. Say you're not happy!

hastingsmua1 · 01/09/2020 17:58

I think this is one of those situations where a balayage/free hand highlights rather a full head of foils would be better. I don’t really understand why she gave you foils because your hair before looked light enough for the look you wanted, if anything you just wanted a darker root added on.

Charliescar · 01/09/2020 19:01

I am not sure , I didn’t say anything in the salon as I like to see it in the sun light .
I just said I like it thanks 😭like you do !

Oblomov20 · 01/09/2020 19:09

It's just one colour. Ash blonde, a bit mousy. But it's just one colour, which is totally not what you asked for. No wonder you aren't happy. Go back and ask her to redo.

SmileyClare · 01/09/2020 19:09

Wow. I think it looks great. A lovely colour and good condition and I prefer it to Kat Farmer's. Any warmer would be verging on yellowish. You've got a good "clean" blonde shade which looks very natural.

Dark roots would be difficult to maintain if you have grey roots so the colour you have will allow grey to grow in less noticeably.

(I'm not your hairdresser by the way Grin)

Charliescar · 01/09/2020 19:17

I just feel a bit frumpy - I know I have grey , but I think it’s my decision re upkeep .

Orriblegandma · 01/09/2020 19:19

Kat Farmer has hair extensions. Just saying.

Charliescar · 01/09/2020 19:25

@Orriblegandma does she ??? It wasn’t her hair cut it was the colour that was the prob 😭😭

OP posts:
SmileyClare · 01/09/2020 19:27

It's hard to tell without seeing your skin tone but if you think the colour isn't for you, you can ask for a dark root drag. That's quite easy to do.

I get it, I always thank my hairdresser, tip them and then go home and cry. It's awkward isn't it? The coward's way to deal with this is to complain by email or phone and ask for it to be rectified.

You can explain it looked different in natural light and wasn't what you asked for. I'm sure they will be fine about it.

CarolVordermansArse · 01/09/2020 19:35

You do look very embarrassed in your second post...

Really it isn't that bad.

WaltzingBetty · 01/09/2020 19:56

You needed a dark base colour with blond highlights/balayage added. Instead she's given you a golden brown and tried to add a few darker lowlights.
She's got the base/lights totally inverted.not at all what you asked for
