New jeans - Topshop Editor or Whistles Barrel Leg?

I've been stuck in a jeans rut for a while and am in need of a change. I've been living in Topshop Jamie skinnies (multiple colours) for years but they're old and full of rips and I'd like a change of style anyway.

Two small DC plus covid restrictions means need to buy online which feels tricky for jeans!

Topshop seems a safe bet as they generally fit me well. I'm tempted by the Editor style (or perhaps raw hem straight leg).

I've also been eyeing up the Whistles barrel leg jeans but have previously found Whistles trousers don't fit me well as they're normally too roomy in hips/bum (which is annoying as I love their clothes), so I guess these would probably be the same.

Have any of you wise SBers got either of these and can comment on style / fit? Or any other nice styles? Trying to minimise the need to send back etc...

If it helps I'm mid 30s, about 5'5'', size 8-10.

I love the Whistles barrel leg and have three pairs - but I think I might be a different shape to you, small waist/big bum. I find they are generous and mine are 27 waist.

I tried on the Topshop Editors but would have needed to size up, my usual 28 waist was like a corset. This was pre-Covid in a busy shop with a queue for the changing room so I just left it.

I’m 5ft 6 and a size 10, sometimes a 12 on the bottom.

I have just invested in two pairs of the Whistles barrel leg - I loved them so much I had to get the blue and the black. They look great with trainers and boots. Planning to wear them all winter. They are very high waisted which I love!! They do come up on the larger side. I ordered the 26 waist first and they were big and in the end swapped them for 24, thinking they might give a bit which they have.
I am normally a 26 in most other shops, including Top Shop, so it must be just the cut of the Whistles ones. I have straight leg and editor jeans from Top Shop and the whistles jeans are much fuller in the leg but still very fitted on the waist and hips. Personally, I prefer the Whistles barrel leg but maybe it’s because I finally splurged on them after eyeing them up for a couple of years.

For reference, I am size 8/10 and 5”4 with no curves (unfortunately) and I feel the barrel leg helps to define my waist more than the straight leg/editor style.

@Timeformetofly I'm just under 5'4" and have been looking at these online! How do you find the length?

The 24 are definitely shorter than the 26 inch. The 24 inch sits just above the ankle bone but the 26 was right at the ankle - if that makes sense! Both lengths looked fine with boots and trainers but sometimes I roll them over depending on the trainers.
My friend is 5”2 and they go past her ankle but she just turns them up.

Thanks for these replies! The Whistles ones do look fab, so thinking I'll order some on my credit card to try... I'd assumed they wouldn't fit me but it sounds like we're a similar body shape @Timeformetofly so you have given me hope! I'm normally a 28 in Topshop jeans so sounds like the 26 in Whistles barrel leg would be the size to try? I've not got any Whistles trousers but have a playsuit and a pair of shorts from there both in size 6 which I think is equivalent... I will report back
