Hello wise Mumsnetters
My son is getting married next summer- NY state. It's going to be an evening ceremony, and reception/do/dancing afterwards. Fairly formal. Ceremony possibly outside depending on weather.

I need a floor length gown-gorgeous obvs, but not too blingy or over the top. I'm 5ft 7, size 12 ish, straight up and down but big thighs (nice), zero waist so can't do anything pouffy, strawberry blondeish hair. I suit greens so I'm thinking sage green/dusky aqua or the like. MOB is going for royal blue so blues are out.

it will be hot so needs to be sleeveless, I'd like a high neck/halter but not backless. Would like something a little boho. I've searched online but can only find massively beaded blingy jobs or bridesmaids dresses. All help gratefully received :) GO!!!!

Oh congratulations OP! That is something really exciting to look forward to.

This is a bit pricey but maybe something like this?

That dress is stunning.

I imagine Anthropology has stores in Europe or will ship. I don't know that they have a dress that fits the bill as well as Mrs. Chocolatte found, but there should be some that have the vibe you are looking for. You can search by style of wedding and there are a range of options.

Congratulations and good luck! What an exciting time for you family!

Too low at the neck?

It's probably just me, but that first net a porter dress looks nice from a distance but the waist looks untidy. I would want a belt or a sash to cover it.

Ghost?

Rina66 · 27/08/2020 10:09

I like this from ASOS, I know you said no bridesmaids dresses, but lots of long dresses will be styled as bridesmaids, it doesn’t mean they exclusively have to be.....

I also like this fro Damsel In a Dress, it comes in lots of colours, a gorgeous pale pink that would look lovely with pale grey suede shoes/ bag and wrap....

I love the second ASOS one that @NutellaEyes linked to.

Samesh1tdifferentbucket · 27/08/2020 16:31

Ooo so many replies! Thank you!!
Some lovely ones here :)
I love the silhouette of the Montreal dress in the Anthropologie link, even though it's backless and I said no backless :) If it was available in green I'd be all over it. Oh well...
I think the Net A Porter one is a bit too flouncy for me, and a bit...mature? (Although I am mature, just delusional). It's a bit above my price range anyway.

Prob should have said, up to approx 250 GBP ish for the right dress-preferably less :)

God I love the Ted Baker one that @missmeg3leg linked to!! IDK whether the lace makes it look a bit too casual? The silhouette and neckline are just what I was looking for-I'll definitely keep this one in mind-thank you.

I'd seen the ASOS ones- the second one that @NutellaEyes linked to is really nice, but the pleating would make my hips look massive :/

I'll have a look at Ghost, thanks Remus. I love their dresses and bias cut is usually good for me. I can't do satin though, too many lumps.

Lots of great ideas-thanks and keep them coming :)

There is a gorgeous whistles gown in TK max that would be perfect. I tried it on in whistles last year and it is very well made so an absolute bargain at the reduced price. Well worth ordering for a try.

linky

The Temperley dress is stunning, beautiful colour and would give the illusion of a defined waist

Lucked · 27/08/2020 16:46

Sorry I skimmed over the blue/green requirement.

Samesh1tdifferentbucket · 27/08/2020 16:46
