Long hair cut for teenage DS- barber or salon?

DS has been growing his hair 2 years and it's below shoulder length. He's finally accepted he should have a trim before starting sixth form but wants to keep the length. Would you go to a barber or a mens/ladies salon?

I take ds to my hairdresser as the barber tends to just chop it all off rather than leave it longer

Hairdresser!

My limited understanding is that they have many more years training than a barber and would have far more experience in cutting longer hair than a barber. DH refuses to go to a barber for his hair.

Meant to say, he might feel more comforatable with a male hairdresser?

I took my 12yo DS to a hairdresser as he wanted to keep his hair fairly long. It was just reaching his shoulders and starting to look a bit triangle shaped as it's quite thick and wavy. The hairdresser made a fantastic job. She cut a couple of inches off and layered it in such a way as to look much less bouffant!
