new mum lost style coat buying dilema

I have a problem that I hope you can all help with. Mumdum has thus far not been my style high point. I used to be quite cool (erm ish ) but I never managed to look at all cool in pregnancy and since having ds have I have lost all clothes buying abilities. Well that?s not actually true I can buy clothes just not clothes that I look good in! Soooo, my mum has given me some money to buy a decent winter coat and I am desperate not to buy something that a) makes me look mumsy b) is drab/boring/practical c) makes me look like a clown/ extra from bad 70?s film/ d) shows me up as fashionabley clueless
Ermmm? what else?.. I think belted suits as I have no waist (skinny size 8-10 no boobs or waist) it would really help if at least shower if not water-proof (it rains a lot here) and I don?t think I ?do? parkas as they kind of drown me out.
Am I asking the impossible? Have looked but in a rather bunny in headlights way, so if someone can prevent me from making an expensive mistake I would so so so appreciate it.
Ta, x
