Do most people wear tops and shirts etc tucked in now?

Trying to buy some new tops online just now after putting weight on during lockdown and the vast majority of photos of tops on models are shown tucked in??? It's really irritating me - I want to see what it looks like untucked so I know if it's going to be long enough to cover my new fat stomach and arse.

Are tops and shirts being made now mostly in the assumption that they'll be getting tucked in? Are most people tucking in now rather than leaving loose?

They do tuck them in but in RL I see lots of girls & women of all ages with actual tummies who still leave them tops loose.
My sister tucks her tops in as she's very slim but I leave mine loose as I'm definitely not!!

Often, if the shirt is made to be left untucked, it will be on the model as such, and not tucked in. A straight across base looks messy IMO, whereas a blouse that is designed to go over the trousers/skirt, is often shaped and scoops lower at the front and back, and comes up onto either hip. Its more flattering too and my preference. Something like this shape:

I love the look but tend to wear higher waisted bottoms and it accentuates my rounded tummy.

PickAChew · 15/08/2020 12:57

Not me. It just accentuates the loose skin on my belly and makes me look like a sack tied in the middle.

Floisme · 15/08/2020 13:01

It depends on what I'm wearing with it. If it's with wide leg, high waisted trousers (or a fuller skirt) then I tuck, otherwise there's too much fabric. If it's with narrow leg trousers then I'd probably leave loose.

I tuck mine in, always have done.

Also I’m short so shirts etc generally look too long on me to leave untucked. Some shirts could pass as dresses! I’m slim with a defined waist so my silhouette looks nicer when I tuck in tops.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 15/08/2020 15:07

I’m a tucker, unless the top ends at the waistband. My hips are wide, so anything hanging on them cuts me at my widest point. I generally wear high waisted bottoms anyway.

All my shirts get tucked in.

thisgirlrides · 15/08/2020 16:03

I have lots of shirts (mainly white but different styles) and have always felt self conscious about my tummy or bum so always left untucked.

I am however now a convert of tucked-in after deciding to risk the tummy and tuck in to show off a new gorgeous leopard skin type belt and had THREE people comments in one day about what a lovely outfit it was, how stylish I looked and a friend's teenage daughter telling her mum she wished she's wear clothes like mineShockGrin. Luckily I don't see her very often or she'd be very disappointed but goes to show what a nice belt and tucking in does to change an outfit so dramatically as I am seriously not someone who gets random compliments.

Notarealmum · 16/08/2020 09:30

I often tuck the top in loosely at one side then sort of fold the rest under so it’s a bit like a tucked in look but more relaxed. Depending on the skirt/pants, it looks neater than the top just hanging there, and less bulky than tuckIng the whole lot in.

CosmicVagina · 16/08/2020 17:30

I'm a 22 and tuck my tops in, it gives me a waist and looks so much better. My c section overhang looks exactly the same regardless if it has a top dangling over it.

evilharpy · 16/08/2020 20:37

I tuck everything. I feel really untidy and frumpy if I don't. I'm pear shaped with a small waist so if I don't tuck in my waist disappears and I look dumpy.

ItsmineAllmine · 16/08/2020 20:48

I feel I look weird with tops tucked in.

Those who tuck - what sort if jeans do you tuck into? My high waisted jeans just make my tummy look enormous when I tuck. I'm a size 10 nut tummy has always been problem area. I feel untucked hides it all away??

OneTooManyBathtimes · 16/08/2020 20:52

Always been a tucker, used to get told off if I did though. Seems like tucking has been a thing for a few years to me though.

Now that I've got a bit more of a belly (After 2 kids and depression) I keep tops untucked
