which will look ok even in the most trying circumstances !... And will fit my long arms & body.. Is this too much to ask? Have already checked out long tall sally/top shop tall and not inspired by anything they have. I obviously need a hood. Any suggestions?
I'm not even hugely tall, well 5'10 but not excessive but it's still so hard to find tops to fit

What size are you?

kitsandbits · 03/10/2007 12:23

this is lovely - no hood though ..

[[http://www.laredoute.co.uk/Product/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductId=324110890&&DocumentId =221807&&CompanyId=R&&source=4 would look fab with this hat in black tho to keep your head dry!!]

kitsandbits · 03/10/2007 12:23

thsi hat even!!

CountessDracula · 03/10/2007 12:25

I got a great one from Primark last year, long and slightly padded with furry parkery hood, quilted black

MissChief · 03/10/2007 12:27

thanks for those. How are they for fit though in those shops? I'm tall.

OP posts:
MissChief · 03/10/2007 12:38

anyone? I@m 6" over the average so "normal" shops tend not to fit. I need a suggestion from a fellow tall person, I feel! TIA

OH and while i'm on, why the hell don't high street shops better serve people like me? There are "petite" sections in most shops (fair enough) but "tall" ones are still v rare. Long tall sally is generally too long for me as well as being rather lacking in the style & quality departments!
I need help!

A friend who is 5' 10.5" tells me that M&S is good for tall women.

Rhumba · 03/10/2007 14:03

I'm with you there my 6ft 2 sister tells me I'm much to much of a short arse to shop at long tall sally at a mere 5ft 10".

Dorethy P's now do a tall range although never found anything I like. They've also realsied that if you buy long lengnth trousers then you may also need longer length body/arms for tops

MeltingandScreamingIcarus · 03/10/2007 14:11

m&s - but I am 5'8".

Are we talking dressy or anorak?

hoxtonchick · 03/10/2007 14:12

topshop has an ok tall section. don't know if they have coats though.

MissChief · 03/10/2007 14:27

thanks all. Yes, I checked the topshop tall section - hooded leather jacket ! Rather nasty looking qualitywise, nothing else.

oh come on, please, I need some help here!
Any fellow tall people out there please? Any tips. Thank you kindly! Oh and re La Redoute, do they come up long then?

OP posts:
Walnutshell · 05/10/2007 08:56

Can't believe you haven't had more help with this one so bumping for you.

butterscotch · 10/10/2007 07:11

I'm 5'11 but long legged rather than long body type I bought a "classic" camel coat from Debenhams Betty Jackson Range last year was £180, full price, though I did get in the sale. It reaches the top of my ankles and is very warm.

MissChief · 10/10/2007 10:19

thank you, thank you! Shall check that out!

Hi I am also 5.10". I once had a gorgeous coat from warehouse that fitted perfectly but ended up last year without one due to similar problems! Am looking for one myself soon so can't help much except to say that I recently got some lovely jeans and two tops in kookai. The jeans are not longer length(as in they seemed to be the only length they did)and they fit perfectly. So just wondered if its worth looking in there for a coat? I am with you though, most shops do not cater for taller people. Topshop and dorethy perkins tall sections seem to be too tall for me but tops in general are way too short and just look like they are the wrong proportions on me. Its really annoying.

MissChief · 10/10/2007 10:37

glad to have company! I'll try kookai then. Remember buying jackets from there yrs ago which seemed to fit ok.

La redoute tend to come up long, and next do longer lengths but the sleeves can be a bit problematic - I've just bought a fab coat from TKMaxx , which is a bit of a feat seeing as I'm 5'11" ,size 18 and 6 months PG - the fit is the best i've ever had (mostly end up in a 20 or 22 because the sleeves are too short otherwise)
I reckon things are improving, but the shops with the length range tend to be a bit on the mumsy side if you're bigger than a 14

My friend got nice one from not Evans - something adams? - for the larger lady. It's quite a lightweight waterproofy material - but with light hood. Black and quite fashionable looking.
or I got one from Asda (not suer if I'll keep it though) in a kahki metallic colour. But you'd need armwarmers and hat - no hood and the sleeves have a kind of strap holding them up to sort of 3/4 length - iykwim. But thats what I liked - just a bit different looking. and it comes down to my knees and I'm 5' 11.
I think the waterproofy ones are better than wool cos they dry quicker - and thats what I need in Scotland!

MissChief · 10/10/2007 13:36

thanks but I@m tall not larger and there's a real gap in the market for people like me. I try on a 14 and it's too big except for the sleeves/length (which are too short!). I just want longish in usual range of sizes, is that too much to ask the clothes manufacturers?

OP posts:
MissChief · 10/10/2007 13:37

maybe i should start my own compnay to rival Long tall sally only selling decent stuff! What do you reckon?!

OP posts:
tracyk · 10/10/2007 13:38

Oh - I think the black one my friend got was a 14 - not sure if they go any smaller or not. But because it was thin material I'd have got a bigger size anyway - so I could wear a fleece/jumper under it.

loads of us are 5'10 or 5'11 - we should be able to choose length, shouldn't we? there's no way an "average" size is going to be long enough if it's made for an average height 5'4"
