Dying bleached blonde hair with semi permanent brown dye? Will it ruin my hair?

Hi,

I have bleach blonde platinum hair which I love. However lately I have been missing my natural brown hair. I brought a semi permanent dark brown dye and really was a few days with my natural hair colour. It says 8 washes?

Will the semi permanent dye ruin by bleached blonde hair? Has anyone had any experience with this??

Don’t do it. Ask a salon to do a semi permanent colour if you need to. You are or likely to go ginger.

Roominmyhouse · 03/08/2020 21:32

Unless it’s a warm brown there is a good chance it’ll go khaki and it’ll grab on the bleach and won’t wash out like it should on natural hair. I wouldn’t risk it personally.

If you are blonde you will need to fill your hair with a red tone first before dying it brown. Otherwise it might go green. A semi permanent dye shouldn't harm your hair too much though.

The salons here do not have semi permanent dyes (I live abroad)

How about if I dye my hair semi permanent.. and then if it is ginger go and have it fixed? Will it cause long term damage? I am in need of my roots doing anyways so maybe I can dye hair with the semi permanent dye and then if it has gone wrong when going into get my roots done I can have my hair fixed?

Ok thank you, seeing as everyone is saying it will turn ginger or green I have scrapped the plan of dying brown! Thank you :)

Jesus don’t do it. It will not come out like the colour ok the box. I wanted my hair dying brown, it was bleached. The hair dresser just laughed at me and said no.

She said they would have to put a base colour on first so the brown would stick but because I’d bleached it I’d probably walk out the shop bald.

What colour are you going for?

Could you try one of those temporary hair sprays like the L’Oréal root cover? They have a few brown shades.

Maybe spray it on an inconspicuous area of you hair, then wash it off to test whether it will completely wash out without tampering with your blonde.

As you’d be covering all your hair, you’d probably want to spray it outside and with an old top on as you’ll use a lot of product

This is actually not a bad idea. But be aware it does slightly come off in your hands or with rain/sweat.

When you bleach your hair you strip all the colour from it. Watch some YouTube videos about it because you will see that you need to build the colour back up and do it in the correct way to not damage your hair. I don't know enough about it to explain properly. Sorry. I really wouldn't do it and get a professionals help.

I’ve done it and it’s always been fine. I go lighter with bleach in the summer and darker through the winter. The only thing I’ve found damaging is the bleach.

I do find semi permanents are much more permanent than they say though, so I’d only do it if you’re happy to stay that way.

I've been using temporary 3-6 washes on my highlighted hair through lockdown and none of them lasted too long - not even the blue.

I've graduated to a semi permanent chestnut honey and even my hairdresser said I did a good job when I went in for a cut.

Try a temporary one first - you can buy sachets from Amazon.

I'm going to need to try this on teenager if schools go back in September, hair bleached and then green dye back in April which doesn't seem to be washing out!

SepticTankYank · 03/08/2020 23:09

I've done it. You must use a brown with red shades. Usually there is a key/legend on the back and it will say not recommeneddd for blonde hair if it doesn't.

You will have to go over it as after a few months or weeks it fades.
