The most common problem in fitting bras is that the back measurement is too big and the cup size too small. Why don;t you go in to M&S again and try on a series of bras yourself, without anyone helping you. If you think that there is too much fabric in the cup for you, then maybe try half cup and balcony styles, but from what you have said, maybe try the following sizes:

32C, D and E
34C, D and E

and if they're no good, then try a bigger cup size, but keep to the back size you like the feel of.
The size of the underwire in a 36A is the same as it is in a 32C, (obviously the actual cup is different though) which is why if your boobs don;t 'look' big an inexperienced fitter may steer you towards a smaller cup size.

Also you may find that M & S just don't really fit you that nicely. If you can get a card to use, figleaves.com let you buy LOADS and do free returns. You could have a major trying on session.
I left Selfridges crying after this happened to me last year. Good luck.

yes, and F! Bet you that you're a 34E or F

fishie · 01/10/2007 22:59

ooh i have DELOCT131 free delivery and returns at figleaves. but it won't help if you don't know what size you are!

interesting thread.

I've had the same experience recently in m&s - tried on about 10 bras and got one that was an ok fit.

Am intrigued by the thought I might have completely the wrong size...

pointydog · 01/10/2007 23:11

a size 14 can't be 36 bra? Even if you've got a broad back?

ggirl- Under bust measurement 32 inches. Any other measurement needed?
Interesting to read how sizes vary. I hadn't realised that.
Wouldn't say i have big boobs! More like saggy bits of skin . Thats what a total of around 4yrs BF(4dc) has done to me!
Currently wearing 38D Next bra. Not bad fit but a little too big.
Thanks again for help and advice.

well a 32 or 34 would probably do.It needs to be a snug fit but not uncomfy. It should ride up your back ,if it does it is too big and isn't supporting your boobs.
It is the band around your chest that gives the support.YOu need to try on different sizes ie 32c,34b 32d,34c etc. There should be no puckering of the cups or spillage of boobs.

this fitting guide is great and pertains to smaller cups sizes aswell.

brimfull · 02/10/2007 20:02

also try 32/34 dd and f sizes

ChristmasPud · 02/10/2007 20:13

If you can go to a John Lewis they measure properly. Also Rigby and Peller have an online advice centre which has some trouble shooting Q's about bras which might help you if you have to try and get you size yourself.

www.rigbyandpeller.com/advice-centre/index.aspx

I went there for my wedding underwear and am so glad I did as my bra size was so different to the one I had been told at Contessa etc. Really made a difference.

tortoise · 02/10/2007 20:16

Thanks. I will make a note of that and go back and try some more!
