Happy with my new grey hair but my make up doesn't work any more

Having embraced the opportunity to go grey during lockdown I'm very happy with my darkish grey hair. Trouble is my bright red and bright orange lipsticks that looked great with my previously darkish brown hair don't work anymore. I love a statement lipstick, but what colour? Feeling I need something with blue tones. (May be talking drivel).

A blue toned red, rather than an orangey red would probably suit you.

Or a strong, deep pink?

When I had grey hair, MAC Ruby Woo looked amazing. It's quite drying but has staying power like nothing else. As pp said, look for cool/blue toned reds Smile

I have grey hair but my colours are warm. Blue tones make me look ill, so grey doesn’t mean cold. It’s a case sometimes of toning it down a bit.
Best thing I ever did was have my colours “done” after going grey. It gave me a huge palette of new colours to wear both as clothes and makeup

I have had grey hair for about 10 years - clear bright colours work for me. Cool toned reds, raspberry pinks and some deep dusky pinks

When it's permitted again, what about booking a lesson with a make up artist with the brief to rethink your whole colour look?

Really helpful comments - thanks.

When its possible I'll get my colours done and visit a beauty counter. In the meantime I'll take a look at ohkevin MAC suggestion.

Just gone grey and cool toned and my favourite lipstick is Lancôme Rouge Bouquet Final.

I find anything with the merest hint of brown makes me look dead. I wear clear reds, shocking pinks, and winter sees plum colours come out. Anything blue based basically.

NARS Schiap is a great colour for grey hair

Mac Plumful, Mac Russian Red and Nyx Aria. All work well with grey hair.

BestIsWest · 02/08/2020 16:57

I love the look of the Mac Plumful.

VinylDetective · 02/08/2020 17:01

Schiap is lovely, one of my favourites. Guerlain Gladys is lovely too.

Brilliant - I feel a spend coming on

You can try lipstick online at Mac. It’s a really useful tool.

I’m embracing my natural hair now too which likewise has meant a total overhaul of my skincare routine (so I look like a “young” grey haired person!😉) and make up. I am watching this thread with interest.
