Bearing in mind the country pub will be in England and considering the weather at the moment, I don't want strappy dresses or anything!

I'm asking because I need to buy a load of new clothes and I don't know what's in fashion because I don't go out much really so just have a few staples I've been wearing for a few years. We've been going abroad the last few years in summer and I tend to wear very different stuff in the evenings as it's obviously a lot hotter. Plus sandals and stuff as feet swell etc, whereas in this country my feet are often freezing in sandals in summer!

Anyone?

The beauty of pubs is anything goes really. Where whatever your smart casual style is.
Jeans and a nice top - that old staple! If you want heels - heeled boots or block heels, wouldn't suggest stilettos.

I'd wear a midi skirt and top, probably a plain top and a patterned skirt, or dress, trainers/converse or if really warm some nice sandals.

Yeah, we’d be walking to the pub so heels probably not a great idea! Think converse type shoes will be the thing. I never know what to wear as a jacket, I have been to proper rural pubs before where you had to walk over sheep fields to get there and an anorak was fine there, but this is a bit less rural than that I think so unless it’s pouring down I wouldnt want to wear my walkers anorak if I’m trying to look a bit stylish?!

I am in the same boat! Planning patterned skirt/dress, plain top and Stan Smiths with a second hand leather jacket I’ve just bought off eBay. Maybe jeans, striped top and boots with same jacket if it’s a bit colder.

Jeans. Barbour jacket. Shirt with a thin knit jumper and some walking boots

Denim jackets are in

CurlyhairedAssassin · 23/07/2020 22:16

Nancy, I might wear that in the daytime if I was on a long walk and stopping for lunch, but not sure it’s ideal for an evening?

I’ve no idea, though, honestly. I come from Liverpool, where they either dress up to the 9s in full HD makeup and heels or wear pyjamas and rollers! Grin

Oh yes, Goose, good idea! I saw a few of them when trying to online shop today but they looked VERY short and boxy, almost cropped. I’ll keep looking though.

I'm from Liverpool!

I didn't think about the night time.

The places we have been haven't been dressy. But I understand you want to look nice. I'd normally wear some combination of the attached in the night as it's quite warm now.

Just replace the sandals with some ballet pumps or comfy boots

CherryPavlova · 24/07/2020 08:33

People plan what to wear to a pub in England?
Just whatever you’re wearing, surely?

I’d have thought some hunters, a pair of cords and a Breton, or similar would be fine. Maybe a Fair isle, if it’s a bit chilly.

Scruffyoak · 24/07/2020 08:35

I live in the country and most people in the proper rural pubs will just be wearing what they wore that day!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 24/07/2020 13:23

It's not that I want to plan what I will wear to the pub exactly, just that I need a whole new wardrobe really and need to know what's "in"these days for various types of occasion/surroundings. They dress up to go to the pub here, I realise they probably don't in the country as they've got more sense!

When I say I have no clue, I mean I REALLY haven't. Yesterday I got followed round the Co-op by a security man and I thought I just looked normal. Admittedly my old skinny jeans did have a (non-designer) hole in the knee and had gone all saggy, and I had a bobbly old plain t shirt on that I probably picked up quickly in the supermarket while doing a food shop and my hair looks like a birds nest with grey in at the moment, I hadn't slept well either so I didn't look my best.

But it's not the first time I've been followed round a shop by security as soon as i've gone in there so I probably don't realise how scruffy I look. Blush

Thanks, Nancy, those ideas are great!

What Cherry and Scruffy said.
People will just go to the pub in what they are wearing. What they have been wearing for the day.
There is no dress code. Certainly you wouldn't 'dress up' to go.

Canklesforankles · 24/07/2020 15:10

What do you feel most comfortable in usually?

If it’s jeans and a tshirt just buy some nice new ones.

If you like dresses there are loads of lovely midi (calf length).

Any comfy shoes are in at the moment - sandals, trainers, brogues. Anything!

Fidgety31 · 24/07/2020 15:39

I would just wear whatever I’ve been wearing all day .i don’t know anyone that gets dressed up just to go to the pub
