Mayonnaise on dry hair overnight

Is Mayonnaise slathered on dry hair overnight actually a good hair mask for dry, greying hair? Or is it just a disgusting waste of time and mayo?

Things that work for me - Pureology Superfood Treatment and for pre wash, Elasticizer or Revlon Bond Maintainer.

Well it is just oil and eggs so might work ..but it does sound messy. Definitely a case for a towel on the pillow.!
Olive oil massaged into dry hair , left overnight and washed out in the morning is a great conditioner.
Mist commercial conditioners are a rip and or ineffective.

I'd rather live with rats' tails than sleep in mayo. Grin
Aging hair sucks, doesn't it, OP? I'm 48 and my hair peaked at 38-39. It's been downhill since. I haven't found the magic bullet BUT I do have to say, washing it with Dr. Wolff's Plantur 39 shampoo only, then rubbing in a bit of Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Conditioner (after towel drying- so using it as a leave-in conditioner) has really, really helped improve my aging locks.
I'll never get back what I used to have but these two products have added grace to my hair, for sure.
You can also sleep with the conditioner on as a mask if you want. I haven't done it.

It's just oil and egg and mustard. Both pretty common DIY hair treatments. I suspect tweaking your diet to include lots of healthy fats might be a better long term remedy, so eat more eggs, avocados, Greek yogurt, nuts etc.

Another one for thinking it might be better to put the oily food inside your body, not outside!

Vanguard, Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Conditioner as a leave in conditioner isn't something I've tried. I still have the the tub left from my trials. I liked it but it thickened my hair, which i don't need. I shall try a dab as a leave in conditioner!

GrinGetting pregnant massively helped my hair (yes I realise that it will be very temporary).

Joking, a bit, but my hair improved when I stopped blow drying it, and I never dye it (not grey yet).

I'd buy a silk pillow case for starters, I've just got one and I love it. Stop towelling your hair and use a cotton t shirt instead. I've used rice water and been pleased with it.

UPDATE from the Mayo front line ...

It actually worked really well; honestly for me it seems far better than hot oils, any kind of homemade oil treatment, and any masks/conditioners I have tried. It has definitely taken the 'fight' out of my greys, iykwim, and overall feels softer. I wonder if it depends on hair type, and the protein in it (I do have a good diet, as others have been recommending).
I decided against the overnight approach (after feeling as sick as everyone else when thought about the logistics) and just stuck it on very slightly moistened hair for an hour with a shower cap on, and it wasn't too bad at all, the cap sealed in the smell. Washed off easily enough with just a tiny bit of water and lots of shampoo to start with (the same way you would wash off an oil treatment). And then conditioned.
In summary, I will def do it again, and I really like that I am not buying the plastic packaging of masks, treatments etc. Highly recommended, but sorry also for making people feel sick! :-)

You’ve not made me feel sick, but you have made me fancy an egg mayonnaise sandwich!

At least mayo is cheap 🤷🏻‍♀️
