Do you think Primark/Penneys will go online now ?
The company must have lost a lot of money being closed and having no online shopping presence.

I doubt it, that's not their model.

Our local Penneys has been mobbed since they reopened so I think their customers are making up for lost time. There was even a separate queue outside the shopping centre last weekend for people to get into Penneys.

It would be great. Sadly, if it was going to happen I reckon it would have already.

They'd need consistent/long term stock items to put up an online shop. Their business plan seems to be more of haphazard stocks which seem to be randomly sent out to stores, so some stores have a specific item, others don't. Having a proper "catalogue" of stock items will push up their costs, as will having to have a lot of stock in warehouses to satisfy online orders. In the long term, they may move to the online model, but it's not something they can do in the short term - websites are quick, but setting up distribution hubs takes months. By the time they've done it, covid will be over. I think they've missed the boat by not having an online presence in the past.

I bet they are sorry now that they are not online. Crertainly in Ireland where all their the shops have been closed in a second lockdown.

If they were sorry they would have done it
They make soooo much money they don't need to
Sweat shop

No. It's worth somewhere like ASOS having an army of web content admins uploading images and copy, as they sell higher-priced items. No way are Primark going to spend all the money required to upload SKUs, photograph and enrich an item online when it's a £2 t shirt that they sell for 2 weeks.

Ghostlyglow · 15/11/2020 14:55

I suppose they might but the prices would go up.

Heard on the business news that they've lost an eye watering amount this year. But still haven't lost as much as they've profited last year so they'll be grand!
