Under wired bikini or not ?

Sammoid555 · 14/06/2020 19:00

Hi ladies just wondering what the over all opinion and preference is as I am thinking of making my own bikini line :) but do I design an underwired one or none underwired. Appreciate any feedback as I really feel like personally anyway that bikini tops just never seem to fit right they always seem to be too short on material and I'm by no means a big busted lady either ! But I still feel when bending down to pick my youngster up or retrieving things from his changing bag that my boobs will embarrassingly have nipple slip ! Or worse.
So I've been sat contemplating designing a better fitting bikini for mum's like me .
Any suggestions ladies ? X

Agree 32f 100% bra size only purchased

KatharinaRosalie · 15/06/2020 10:58

As others, I would never buy not bra sized bikinis. Surely one would not expect a 32A and 32K to wear the same bra, why would we expect them to wear the same bikini?

SpringSpringTime · 15/06/2020 11:01

Honestly i’d prefer a swimsuit but getting the fit right is impossible. I’m tall and narrow but I need some bust support (used to be big boobed, now rather emptied out!). Even with much reduced boobs bikini tops by dress size don’t fit as I have a small back size.

AnyFucker · 15/06/2020 11:08

I am not a large cupsize (D/DD) but I still need support for "empty" boobs.

I need support underneath so always balcony bras. I look for underwired balcony bikini tops in my cup size and tie side bottoms that don't cut in. I am slim but kinda "skinny fat" with wobbly, untoned bits.

I think it depends on the style of the bikini. I don't own a single bikini top with a bra size in it and it has never been a problem. I mix and match tops and bottoms to get the sizing right.

Passthecake30 · 15/06/2020 11:23

The only tops that haven’t been bra size that have worked for me is the triangle tie round neck sort that I can hoist up. It can be tiring on my neck hence preferring bra size ones.

bluebluezoo · 15/06/2020 11:26

I hate underwire. With a passion. It is so uncomfortable, and shortens the life of the garment, and means I can’t shove it in the washing machine.

I have never had an underwire that was comfortable enough to wear, and I don’t feel the support is great either, particularly while you’re active.

For everyday I wear sports bras.

For a bikini top i’d like someone to design something from a good strong lycra- if i have that and a reasonably tight underband i can tie a halter or tighten straps enough to be supportive.

Major problem for me thinking about it is the old bra issue and cup size- if i size down enough for the underband to be tight enough, the cups tend to be tiny and not big enough to cover the boobs.

Anything with a cup size tends to be underwired. Anything not underwired i need an 8 for the underband, but size 12 cups...

sanityisamyth · 15/06/2020 11:29

I'm 34JJ. Underwire is the only thing keeping them off the floor!

KatharinaRosalie · 15/06/2020 11:37

blue Freya has several non-wired but cup sized models. Before cup size bikinis were widely available, I would also buy an XXL instead of S and sew the back smaller, buy that's really not a solution either as the cups were then of course set a lot wider than I needed

Terralee · 15/06/2020 11:40

I'm 43 not a mum (it's a sore subject) & I wear underwired halterneck bikini tops in a 32G from Figleaves usually with matching bottoms.
I'm prepared to pay up to about £27 for a decent bikini top.
I like bright patterns.

Terralee · 15/06/2020 11:41

Just because I'm not a mum doesn't mean I'm really confident in my body.

Rollerbird · 15/06/2020 11:43

@bluebluezoo very good point
A sports bra type bikini in cup sizes
Major win

SpringSpringTime · 15/06/2020 12:02

Good point. And the reason my tummy is a mess is from other surgeries, nothing to do with babies
okiedokieme · 15/06/2020 12:24

I only wear under wired because I'm an e cup. Bra sizing is essential for me as I also have a fairly narrow back!

okiedokieme · 15/06/2020 12:27

The key though is bottoms that have some support, eg light to medium shape wear, I like the bottoms to sit just below my belly button ideally. I typically pay around £50 for a bikini if that helps.

Why not aim your product at ALL women.

Because by trying to please everybody, more often than not, you end up pleasing nobody.

Sammoid555 · 15/06/2020 13:01

Thank you Phone lock , I would absolutely love to please every one all women all shapes and sizes and for women who have had children or not had children , I really would and eventually I will most Definatly try my best to be able to cater for all but no I just can't at first unfortunately:(( so to begin with I am going to take all the feed back I am obtaining on board and work with a manufacturer and come up with my design to try and accomadate as many ladies as I can :) x

Always underwired and bra-sized -- they look better. I have long passed the stage of body confidence/beauty but at nearly 64, I still wear a bikini. It's my incentive to walk, do Pilates, and decline cake and dessert!

MikeUniformMike · 15/06/2020 17:28

Boned not underwired for me. Something to give it shape without looking too bra-like.

fairgame84 · 15/06/2020 17:33

I'm only a 30dd but always get underwired, padded and in my bra size.
I never by clothes sized bikinis because an 8 is too small for my boobs and a 10 too big.
I like padded to give me a nice shape and hide my nipples in a cold pool!

woodhill · 15/06/2020 17:39

Always a proper fitted boned top sinc my 30s after having dc

bluebluezoo · 15/06/2020 22:59

Won’t padded get waterlogged and make it difficult to swim?

I need to be able to swim, jump in, be generally active. One reason I don’t usually wear bikini’s as they aren’t really practical.

I opt for a swimsuit, usually with a rash vest if it’s hot.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 15/06/2020 23:07

I would love to get a bandeau style top for big boobs that fastens in the front. The dream is to capture all the underarm boob and bring it forward into underwired or otherwise scoopy boob holders that are then concealed under a simple bandeau front. I've got plenty of boob with which to make cleavage - I don't need any padding which doesn't dry out, I just need my boobs gathering up and pointing forwards! But I would like them also lifted a bit. Is that do-able? I would pay the big bucks for that.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 15/06/2020 23:08

I think what I am basically describing is a corset in bikini form!

PhoneLock · 15/06/2020 23:12

I do all that. I just wear bikini bottoms and a rashie on top.

If there are people about.
