Shoes for plantar fasciitis

mumtumandabigbum · 13/06/2020 14:57

I seem to have developed plantar fasciitis in my feet, which I thinks a combination of running lots last year and not stretching out, tearing a ligament in my ankle through netball, which lead me to being out of action for months and lots of weight gain. I wear really flat shoes like flip flops or converse all the time and need some recommendations on casual shoes which aren't frumpy if you know what I mean.

Oh you poor thing - I had PF a few years ago after walking long distances in very flat shoes. I found that the Birkenstock range of shoes really helped me. They have the same cushioning as the sandals but in a shoe.

I can't help with the shoes, I'm afraid post PF I pretty much live in trainers, but ice!

Ice your feet for 20 mins as many times a day as you possibly can. Never sit down without an ice pack. Ice is often advised but I don't think people realise how frequently you need to do it. It really does help.

And stretch you calves with a strap around your toes, before you get up and then again several times a day.

I love my Birkenstocks, but find them too flat when my PF is bad (like now - it's got much worse since lockdown). I've recently bought a pair of Josef Siegel clogs though, and the wee bit heel height is helping. I love them, but DD thinks they look awful (but she's 15 so we have very different styles!😬). Stretching is good too. Hope yours improves soon 👣💐

Get yourself these ☝🏻
They've helped me SO much xx

I have been living in Birkenstock's since I got PF. They take a bit of wearing in for about a week, especially the arch area , because they need to mould to your foot shape.
Atm, I can barely walk with no shoes on but in the B's I hardly notice it at all.

AngusThermopyle · 15/06/2020 13:35

Oh, I also have some of those that cuteglasses has posted. Mine are pink from Amazon.

I’ve had PF for about 2 years now, since going for a run in trainers that were too small Sad. Ended up being agonising and I started getting a pain in one hip which was what finally got me to an amazing sports injury therapist who used shockwave and laser therapy, together with rehab exercises to treat me. My right foot was much more painful than the left and when he weighed me on 2 scales (one for each foot) I was distributing 5kg more through my left foot, which was obviously throwing everything out of whack, leading to hip pain, which would have led to back pain. I now have no pain in left foot and manageable amount in right and I’m running again, finally. What seems to be making the last bit of difference is turmeric tablets! (I also ice, stretch a lot - heel drops off a step, ‘big toe stretch’ yoga pose and yoga squat to stretch out Achilles, massage with a golf ball under my feet..).
