Is the a code of dress in which type of shirt you should wear with a suit?

DH has to go away for a few days and needs to wear his suit. At present when he is at work he either wears a short sleeve buttoned down collar - open at the neck or a Polo shirt. Well TBH, he is having great difficulty in choosing a shirt, he has 2 - 1 with long sleeves and 1 with short sleeves both with ties that match. He is worried about being warm, so I suggested the short sleeve, but he is worried that it wont look so smart as the long sleeve. My opinion is, that if he is hot and sweaty then he will not be looking very smart anyway!

So, is there a code of dress when wearing a suit?

I would suggest long sleeved shirt (even better if he has cufflinks) If he gets hot he removes his jacket.

If he wears a short sleeved shirt and removes his jacket he'll look like he works in PC world......(no offence to any employees of PC world)

Thanks, appreciate that!

My DH would only ever wear a long sleeve cotton shirt, not button down, with cufflinks, which would look smart enough in case he took his jacket off.

Its not a button down collar, just a normal one, doesn't have cuff links thou! He will only wear a button down collar with no tie.

Get a thick cotton shirt to absorb the sweat - polyester ones show!

If he's not going to wear a tie he probably won't be looking that smart either!

If he's hot he can unbutton the cuffs and roll his sleeves up.
