Bored of dyed ginger hair - what can I do with it?

Hi all..bored of my hair. I'm naturally a dark blonde but have been dying it ginger for a year or so. I've been compulsively watching too much tiktok and am envious of all the pinks, lilacs and silvers I'm seeing and now I want to do have a different hair colour. I realise I probably can't have pink etc, but is there anything I can do with it? I'm bored!

...is that me, 4 years ago??

I'd been dying my hair red for almost 10 years and just got bored of it and wanted to play around with the colour more. It was a long process though - letting the red fade out (took a good few months where I just stopped doing anything to it), then I bleached it at home (took couple goes using a box bleach, spread over a couple weeks to get the level I was after). Once roots started showing I went to a salon for root bleach and toner.

But now I love my champagne blonde hair and I'll use the wash in pastel colours for a fun couple days. (Though right now I'be got roots half way down my head...it's horrific 🙈)

Bleach the ends?
I've been dying my hair ginger for nearly a decade and occasionally go for a deeper red dye or bleach the ends for a reverse ombre effect

If I want to change it up I'm going to have to bleach it aren't I? It seems like a really bad idea to do that myself at home with no hairdresser to fix it for me!

Unless you just want to go for a different shade of red or a brunette - yeah, you'll need to bleach.

If you feel vaguely confident with doing your own hair, it definitely is possible to do it yourself. Especially if you just do the ends like pp said. Just know it might take more than one go, depending on how dark your current hair is, and it's better to leave at least a few days between it, just to not totally wreck your hair. So might be a weird orange colour as an in-between.

What about silver shampoo? Would that do anything? 🤔

No. You would need to have blonde hair for that to make a difference. The suggestion above for dying the ends is good. You will not be able to probably lift them light enough for cool hues like silver, blue or purple, but pink would lend itself nicely as it has warm undertones. :)

I dye my hair ginger. I'm a natural dark brown.

I love Colour Before. When I dyed my hair black it completely removed the black & I dyed a new colour on top. I've used it to remove red before too & you can use it more than once without it damaging your hair.

You can then put a dye on but I'd usually wait a few days otherwise it has a tendency for your hair to really take the colour & make it darker.

Putting the stuff on is a faff, it takes ages & it does stink but it really does work.

What about staining the mid lengths and end with a fuchsia crazy colour? There’s plenty on the market and it will just wash out overtime. But it might give you a taste of change that you crave? I’d avoid bleaching you’re own hair, but only because I’m a hairdresser that has had to fix some pretty bad damage on occasion.

*your hair not you’re. blimey! The sun and wine has gone to my head😂

CremeDeSudo · 01/06/2020 11:08

Oooh never thought of a colour remover! I'll have a look. This is intriguing!

Colour before but make sure you rinse, rinse rinse. Dont colour your hair straight away after or the colour will oxidise. You need to leave at least a week
