Soon to be 13 DD is going through that awkward stage where her body is changing very rapidly, she's questioning her sexuality and not necessarily comfortable with her very womanly body, hair, weight, spots, etc etc.
She loves swimming though.
I would like to buy her swimwear that she feels comfortable in, doesn't look out of place in an indoor swimming pool and gives her a sense of comfort without feeling exposed.
She'll need women's size 8 or even 10.
I have seen short sleeved rash vests and shorts in mountain warehouse. Quite plain, as she won't wear anything too girly or too feminine.
Before I go ahead and purchase that, does anyone know of any online websites where I can find this kind of thing? Thanks so much.

Surf style places might be worth a look - surf dome for example

Finisterre have swim wear that is quite practical - aimed at active people and a new range with some prints from natural history museum. They also have it in mens so it's a fairly unisex offering.

Dd has a plain black boy short style all in one swimsuit. ( slazenger brand) Sports direct or amazon sell them.

SarahTancredi · 29/05/2020 14:20

Chrysanthemum5 · 29/05/2020 14:21

My DD has always worn shorts and a rash vest. We had quite some searching last year for shorts that were not too short, no pink allowed and ended up with a top and shorts from different places. We looked online on mountain warehouse, fat face, surf shops (but they tended to have bikini bottoms and too much pink). I have a wonderful pair of surf shorts that I wear with a racer back yoga top. Decathlon have short rash vests and board shorts but I think the board shorts aren't great for indoor swimming but they also have some other options worth looking at.

I am so glad I asked you lot. Thank you. Looking at all the different options suggested.

Speedo also do a one piece with shorts. You can get ‘proper’ rash vests that are for swimming rather than for sun protection too. My dd sometimes wears her ‘spring suit’ wetsuit to the pool as she gets really cold. She’s 13 and nobody looks at her oddly!

Lots of places sell modest swimwear now.

Sassysusan92 · 29/05/2020 15:18

Superdry have some really plain options swimsuit wise, not sure how comfortable a rash vest would be to swim indoors in. Some of the patterns aren't very feminine either. More cool, why don't you ask her to pick something she likes?

Saisong · 29/05/2020 15:19

My 13yo wears this Slazenger shorty one: www.houseoffraser.co.uk/brand/slazenger/boyleg-swimsuit-ladies-354743?google&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIt4u3p6HZ6QIVh4jVCh0FywYSEAQYAyABEgLxNvD_BwE#colcode=35474322
Though we got it from Sports Direct. She is also very self conscious of her developing self and up to now wore boys 2 piece rash vest/shorts.

Saisong · 29/05/2020 15:20

Meant to say she has the size 10

Ohnoherewego62 · 29/05/2020 15:21

I always wore a tankini when I was younger. Covered all apart from legs, shoulders and arms.

morelikeaclubsandwich · 29/05/2020 15:23

Speedo swimming costume or tankini top with boyleg shorts

Try surfdome
both older kids and small womens

Elouera · 29/05/2020 15:28

Asda have some plain rash vests which could be matched with swim shorts or regular swim pants:
direct.asda.com/george/clothing/10,default,sc.html?prefn1=size&prefv1=13-14%20Years&q=rash%20vest

Matalan also have some, but only up to an age 13 size, which might be too small?

Elouera · 29/05/2020 15:34

At that age, I remember be concerned about pubic hairs straying out of my costume. I think I'd only recently started shaving my legs, but was too embarrassed to ask mum if public hair could be trimmed or what to do with it.

Not an issue if you find boy leg/short style bottoms, but maybe bring it up if she is concerned about regular swimwear bottoms and this issue Blush

userabcname · 29/05/2020 15:39

Swimming costume or tankini top and board shorts

confusednortherner · 29/05/2020 15:45

I'd think a rash vest / shorts would stand out, well at least it would where we swim. Would she wear a longer leg swim suit? Lots of girls my daughter swims with wear kneesuits or ones that sit on thigh.

Thank you so much everyone. I have ended up buying her the Speedo legsuit. She liked the look of it although she will still want some cover around her shoulders to conceal spots.

Talking of which, if anyone has any recommendations for skin care for hormonal spots, but maybe that's another thread.Smile

Evening primrose oil, magnesium and see a homeopath.

Gwenhwyfar · 30/05/2020 12:35

I have a speedos leg suit that isn't very feminine, but also isn't anything like a wet suit and is clearly a swim suit that wouldn't draw any attention.

Gwenhwyfar · 30/05/2020 12:36

Sorry, but homeopathy is bullshit. Read Ben Goldacre on it.
