Brassy highlights

My hair is looking terrible at the moment. I had highlights put into my mousy hair about 6 months ago. They’ve now gone really brassy - a horrible bright yellow. Can someone please recommend something to tone it down until I can get it done professionally again?

Blenny I’ve spent so money trying to make light brown hair ashy, and never managed it. In the end I bleached it because it’s easier to get an ashy blonde than an ashy brown. I bought cool toned browns, ones with ‘ash’ in the name, and they all ended up with me having coppery brown hair.

I Use Fanola in the shower, pop it on, leave for about 10 mins while doing other ablutions. Have a face cloth handy to wipe dribbles from face. Rinse well and follow with any conditioner. It will turn your hands a bit purple but that comes off and doesn't bother me. I find once a fortnight is sufficient Smile

@CatsOfSummer I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Fanola No Yellow turned light brown hair ashy as well

I have the fanola no yellow shampoo, it's ok, I leave it on my dry hair for 30 minutes, it can turn the lighter
bits lilac but I like that, sometimes I use it on wet hair as you're suppose to, I also like the loreal one just as much.

Well I’ve bought Fanola no orange shampoo and mask. I’ll report back!!

AvoidingRealHumans · 23/05/2020 18:34

I was using loreal serie expert silver shampoo, it's just ran out and I'm going to try fanola now.
Excited to see the results

Another vote for Fanola. My salon recommended it and I bought mine from amazon. I'm seriously cack handed and while it's messy, even I can use it! And the results are great! I do put surgical gloves on to do it, by the way!

Oooo that Fanola does look good! I think my absolute ideal hair colour would be that ‘bronde’ but neither I nor a salon has managed to achieve it without lots red in there. The last time I went to a salon they added some ‘cool’ lighter pieces and were all cooing about how different it was and it absolutely was not at all, when I got home DH couldn’t even tell I’d been. I tried lots of the deep purple inky shampoos on the light coppery brown to no avail.

Shortly after lockdown started I bleached it all twice, toned it with some Wella T18 I got from eBay and some developer I had from another dye (probably totally stupid and inadvisable to do that all myself) but it actually looks pretty good, I got a decent ashy blonde colour. I use the Shades of London silver shadow as a top-up toner by mixing it in my conditioner - the box makes it look like it’ll give you dark grey hair but it’s very dark purple and keeps it ashy really well.

Update: I used the Fanola No Yellow shampoo this morning. I can’t see a huge difference but I was a bit scared about leaving it on too long so only left for about 5 minutes. Next time I’ll try 10.
Thanks for the tip about using gloves. I did and haven’t got any staining on my hands or anywhere else.
