For yourself as you are and on others?
For myself I like fake tan(light)glowy skin big eyelashes hair in a chignon/bun thingy glossy lips big hoops slim jeans heels and a lovely bag. The look I admire but will never have is that short hair no make up no bbobs french style which I think is beautiful

I saw a photo of the founder of net-a-porter at the weekend and thought, "Why can't I pull off that effortless-looking preppy style?" And then I thought, "Oh yes, because I am a well-endowed size 20 and when I tuck that crisp white shirt into my jeans I look like Jeremy Clarkson."

Nylon walking trousers, fleece top, walking boots and headscarf.

1crazymumof2 · 19/09/2007 09:57

Me as i'am, normally. A grown out pob that is now about shoulder length, does'nt look to bad though, usually straightened, big thin hoops (or studs with a necklace) urban decay lipgloss, mac blusher, curled mascara'd eyelahes. Clothes wise slim fit jeans with leather boots, perhaps vest top with a little shrug, nice big metallic leather bag. The look i'd love is 1940's ala Dita von teese but i'd never have the balls to carry it off!

ImBarryScott · 19/09/2007 09:57

For me - Annie Hall.

For others - WASPie. I cannot do neat and tidy and look like a scruff in a suit. How others can look immaculate in jeans, shirt and a ponytail I'll never know.

oliveoil · 19/09/2007 09:59

me: freshly washed hair in high ponytail, jeans, boots, white shirt (dh likes this one)

on others: short short hair, fab bone structure, plain clothes, like Sinead O'Conner in that video when she cries

I usually do 60's style on the knee shift dresses, as I am short but long of leg, and have a mahogany bob, so it suits me.
Would love to do the 'Marlene Dietrich' look but am high waisted and tend to look like I'm dressing up in my mother's clothes (sigh)

nangnangnang · 19/09/2007 10:06

Deitrich's daywear - elegant and ever so slightly mannish.

nangnangnang · 19/09/2007 10:09

RHW - fine taste. I'd love to be able to keep my left eyebrow slightly raised all day too. But too much effort and doubt anyone would notice anyway.

saadia · 19/09/2007 10:18

oohh interesting question, I like the classic tweed trousers, cashmere sweater, shiny hair, strand of pearls and ruby lipstick look OR linen trousers, loose tunic top and discreet jewelry look.

rantinghousewife · 19/09/2007 10:20

Lol at nanangang. Raising an eyebrow in salute to you my dear.

morningpaper · 19/09/2007 10:23

I want 1950s Dior New Look
full skirt, tiny waist, pillbox hat, gloves

(irl I am currently mostly wearing jeans, boots, land's end mac and a motley assortment of buttoned shirts for bf)

janeitebus · 19/09/2007 16:50

I'd like - classic Audrey Hepburn cigarette pants, black poloneck and short hair - really Beatnik, probably with purple lipstick and hair to mix the messages a bit.

OR Tall, willowy, titian red hair (used to have this but was never tall or willowy) with silk slip dresses and cobwebby cardigans!

filthymindedvixen · 19/09/2007 16:53

I'd like to be able to carry off, wispy, floaty funky hippy yet sort of elegant. I cannot carry it off despite all the raw materials being there. I am getting on a bit

MyEye · 19/09/2007 17:03

Annie Hall here, too. Oh to have a nice flat chest! (Strange how so many of us dream of no boobs)

filthymindedvixen · 19/09/2007 17:29

I suppose this shows how none of us are ever happy! (Thin, titless wonder here. But not got a petite, elfin frame. I have very strong arms and broad shoulders - I look like a builder in drag when I wear a halter-neck..)

FrannyandZooey · 19/09/2007 17:32

Yes I would like Audrey Hepburn, or all willowy with enormous red curly hair. Am pondering whether to buy the enormous red curly hair bit actually.
