Why can’t I find a decent ASH hair colour? Pic

As you can see there’s loads of red tones in it despite me choosing a light ash brown.

I always have this issue no matter what I buy. Even in a salon I always can see red shining through under certain lights.

What can I use to give a true ashy tone?

I'm not sure what you're seeing - your hair already looks very ashy to me - maybe even too ashy.
If you want more ash, you could use purple toner or you could bleach hair rather than tint and then use toner.

I can't see ANY red Confused

Are you wearing rose tinted glasses ? Grin

I have very red undertones and always have to use a toner when I dye even using an ash dye. Jerome Russell works well for me

inwood · 15/05/2020 12:24

I think you would have to bleach it first

My hairdresser adds a LOT of blue when she's doing my hair. She says she's never seen anything like the very persistent warmth. Once it's done I look a million times better.

I bought Fanola no more orange shampoo so am seeing if that works for now.

It doesn’t seem to photograph very well but under sunlight or the bathroom light all I can see is red.

This was a home box dye on top of some bleach / highlights / previously streaked browny hair.

I’d forgotten about purple shampoo, I’ll buy some and see if it helps

Maybe this is a better pic?

I have this too! My hair is naturally a dark blonde but it 'shines' red and has red undertones. Therefore it is really hard to get it to a 'cool' colour. I've spent a fortune on highlights over the years but never get the pale creamy blonde I want.

I think you have to work with what you have, is there a warm colour you would be happy to try? I'm going a light copper chestnut as soon as the hairdresser reopens, I'm fed up of having hair like straw that inevitably goes a bit orange Hmm

I have red undertones in my hair and have ash blonde highlights. I have to have a toner every time and use purple shampoo ones a week.

EllaPaella · 15/05/2020 12:53

Any warm blonde goes orange in my experience.

I've considered it too but my goodness it doesn't suit me. Surely our natural colour should - but mine doesn't.
