Blonde hair bit of a disaster

I know so many people asking but I’ve tried bleaching my usually highlighted very blonde hair. Highlights last done in January.

I used BBlonde by Jerome Russell and then a platinum toner to supposedly take out the brassiness. My hair is so bright but looks stupid as the top of my hair is WAY blonder than the rest. I really need a hairdresser Sad

Can I put a brown box dye in it to make it less bright? How do I avoid the top part (Mega blonde) being a different shade to the rest of my hair (it’s very long hair). Or is there some other toner I can use all over to bring it down?

Thank you for any input whatsoever

Have you tried a purple shampoo? It might be a gentler way of toning it down. I definitely would not put brown dye over the top.

Waterdropsdown · 11/05/2020 22:03

Thanks, yeah I’ve used that it’s just too white looks stupid

Maybe try a blonde hair dye rather than brown
Maybe a semi permanent

What are your long term plans? Salons won’t be closed forever, July is the earliest they’d open - which isn’t that long to go.

It will be easier for your stylist to correct it if you leave it alone now. Particularly if you want to stay blonde. No point chucking a brown dye over it only to go blonde again - it makes your stylist’s job harder because box dye is unpredictable and difficult to shift evenly, so you might not actually get the result you’re after. If you normally get highlights, your stylist will have

I think for now, just keep washing it and the blonde will fade - it should look less bright/stark in a few weeks. From there I’d recommend a darker blonde toner instead of brown dye

Thanks
Yeah ideally I’ll stay blonde, but not THIS blonde on top. Obviously I’m glad I hardly have to see anyone but feel like people are staring at me when I go out!
Think I’ll try and get a darker toner and see if that makes it less bright and out there.

Revolution silver galaxy sorted my brassy home bleached hair out! I tried loads of different products but this one finally shifted it I left it on for about an hour whilst I had a bath then washed out and dried hair it’s such a good colour now! Could not recommend enough and it’s cheap as chips too Smile

Waterdropsdown · 12/05/2020 12:40

Thanks I’ll have a look at this product
I’m open to anything that will help darken/dull this down!

Revlon nutricolor colouring semi-permanent conditioners may be worth a go. I used the 812 on my too blonde hair yesterday and now it's mid-blonde. It should wash out for over the next week but it's a useful stopgap.

maybelou · 13/05/2020 17:58

Toners aren't usually permanent so you'll find that it'll get duller over time anyway with a few washes!

Need a pic to judge. I bleach my daughters hair but can’t advise without a pic.

You just need to tone it. As others have said, please don't dye it brown. The bleached sections of my hair look terrible before they've been toned, it's incredible what a toner can do.

You need a toner with the base colour opposite to the colour your hair is on the colour wheel in order to calm it down. So if it's yellow, then purple/violet based toner. If it's orange, blue based toner.

I use Wella toners that you mix with peroxide but I can't advise on a specific one without seeing a picture of your hair and knowing what colour you'd like it to be and what colour you wouldn't mind being. For example, I often deliberately tone my blonde parts a muted lilac or dusky pastel pink - it looks lovely, covers a lot of sins and is much easier to achieve than a clean blonde.

As others have said, toners will fade anyway so you can experiment.

Buggedandconfused · 13/05/2020 19:00

I think you did a great job! It just needs a toner. But don’t panic, it looks great!

MelonsMcGee · 13/05/2020 19:12

I like it!

Waterdropsdown · 13/05/2020 19:14

It’s a lot blonder than the rest of my hair (I only did the massive roots and maybe some extra length).
Actually using a pink/lilac toner was something I had wondered about as well. I’ll try the one I’ve got on order and then see what happens from there.
I’m getting more used to it but as someone who is used to highlights rather than full on blonde it’s a shock!
Thanks for everyone’s help

Wow I'm really surprised by your photo, I think it looks pretty good and you did well. Hopefully your toner works well. When applying, start on the freshly bleached areas only and watch for it to look more toned down before your spread the toner on the rest of the hair - as your ends have been bleached before, the colour is likely to grab and look darker on the ends so it likely won't need long on the ends at all.

Waterdropsdown · 13/05/2020 20:17

Really great tip about how to apply the toner, much appreciated

Thought I’d come back and update
Got a wella toner no15 Caramel blonde I think was the name. So much better! I have no longer got a white top of head and normal blonde rest of my hair. It’s blended in so nice, literally like magic. Maybe people won’t stare at me anymore when I’m out!

It’s slightly on the “warm” side but the ash one was sold out.

Toner is my new favourite thing!

Great news OP! 😊

empireants · 18/05/2020 22:49

@Waterdropsdown I'm so pleased for you! Toners really are magic. Highly recommend Wella Koleston with their pastel developer.

Mnthrowaway20202 · 19/05/2020 22:30

Sounds lovely! So happy for you!
