oWOW hair straightening kit. Anyone tried?

I've seen this advertised in lots of places (think they have a great marketing team and it seems to follow me around) tried curly girl and all sorts and nothing works.

The only thing I've had luck with is a £25 amazon version of kerastriaight - but the fumes are horrific.

This is pricey (although a fraction of salon prices) and was hoping a real life person had tried it!

My curls are really naff and straightening is a pain. So if this eliminates some frizz then I'd be thrilled. But just unsure if it's worth double the price of what I already use.

If no one tried then am open to any suggestions!

Thank you!

From amazon so the prices go up & down I have used the below. both stink, have had amazing no frizz results & last easily 2-3 months on my shoulder length hair (I can get 2 uses out of each box)

(currently discounted to £8.99) Kativa Keratin And Argan Oil Brazilian Straightening Kit
*doesn't tingle on scalp
*washes out after application
*removes the colour on the dyed hair BUT i have had no problem when redyeing (i have waited a week) (roots didn't change colour)

and I think this is the one you have already used (£26)
Brazilian Straight
*makes scalp tingle - get a friend to help if possible
*cant wash out or tie hair up for 3 days
*did not effect hair colour

I blow dry & straighten next to an open window which helps!!!

Thank you @KangapooandRoo ! I'm going to give your £8.99 one a whirl. Yes that's the one I use, ohhhh the stench! And the eye sting! How much did it strip the colour? Just a few shades?

I get kerastraight every 4/5 months, it’s excellent and well worth the money, especially as I have thick curly hair. I’d be too worried to try any of these things.

I used the Brazilian Straight one (in a slightly different iteration) from Amazon and it nearly knocked me out! Not being able to wash my hair for 3 days was torture but the results were amazing.

How do the fumes in the Kativa one compare, @KangapooandRoo?

KangapooandRoo · 12/05/2020 06:30

@thescarftwins I'm a fetching dark marmalade orange/blonde . I clearly don't hate it as i cant be arsed to redye at the moment.

KangapooandRoo · 12/05/2020 06:32

@GlowerGlower it smells about the same - cover your nose

thescarftwins · 13/05/2020 21:07

@KangapooandRoo @Glower

Just don't the £8.95 kit after using the £25ish kit for ages. The one you recommended @KangapooandRoo is genuinely really impressive. My review is

  1. Much more pleasant smell than the £25 kit.
  2. Feels less abrasive/noxious.
  3. Really like that you wash the product out straight after the first application.
  4. Hair was straight soon as I washed it out and the curls didn't ping back when wet.
  5. I blow dried and my hair was smooth and straight. This has NEVER happened before (even when I paid ££ for a kerastraight at a salon which I've done numerous times)
  6. Have now run straighteners over (didn't really need to) and hair now feels healthy and smooth and glossy. And STRAIGHT! Shame about the lock down split ends - but not that adventurous!

Thank you so much @KangapooandRoo and I definitely recommend @Glower - my hair is ginger but I dye to cover greying roots. Has gone lighter, but for me looks how I look after a holiday in hot sun. Doesn't look like a chemical change.

Genuinely really impressed. And so glad I didn't pay £50!

I'll report back in a week or two after it's been washed more. Thanks!

Have no idea how I've turned some of it bold.

I’m pleased I came across this post. I’ve just ordered it. Can’t wait to try it!

KangapooandRoo · 14/05/2020 07:08

Fab - glad it worked for you.
My favorite bit is being able to let my hair dry naturally rather than having to faff around with straighteners every day.
Don't forget to wash with Sodium Chloride Free Shampoo after... (Holland an Barrett have a selection Jojoba is nice I'm not so keen on the Turmeric & Lemon)

KangapooandRoo · 14/05/2020 07:14

Oh & if you are new to the home straightening make sure you scrape as much of the cream out of your hair before drying or it will take forever to dry. Only put as much on as you need to cover the hair (& don't do what i did the first time & slap the whole pot on & wonder why i couldn't dry my hair!!!!!!)

thescarftwins · 14/05/2020 07:43

@SeaShells31 am genuinely impressed! Woke up and still shiny and smooth

@KangapooandRoo thank you. Hadn't thought of that. Will order some. Thank you!

Honestly, know it seems like such a small and insignificant thing, but this is such a big thing for me to be able to have reasonably normal hair is such a treat!
