Shoes with ankle straps

Really love shoes with ankle straps. Go all dreamy over them

Then I try them on and it all goes wrong. Feet transformed in to clown's feet, look gigantic. Legs foreshortened.

Who do they suit? I am 5' 3". Do you have to be tall?

I like them as well, but seldom wear them because they make my legs look dumpy. And I am 6 foot tall, so god knows who they suit.

Perhaps only supermodels with very skinny long legs.

Oh dear, who DO they suit then? Only if you are tall and willowy? Tell ...

I love them and I'm a shorty - only 5, 2. BUT I have very skinny ankles and I feel that ankle starps sort of "pad them out" a bit, if you know what I mean!!! And it's important to get the skirt length right with them - which is where I start to have problems because skirts are all too long for me and it's so easy to look dowdy if your skirt hits just that wrong point on your leg - or for me anyway!

janeitebus I'm the same height as you and I wear ankle-strap shoes too (mainly because I am rubbish at walking in heels without them). I agree that slim ankles are a necessity.

I think if you are not tall and willowy you have to stick to the following rules that I have just made up:

a) Slim ankle
b) Slim calf
c) Skirt knee length
d) Either skirt same colour as shoes or shoes same colour as tights
e) Heel not too blocky
f) Feet not too big
g) Shapely ankle - just added that because I remembered that my best friend is very slender but has ankles that resemble a set square, no shape to them and they look terrible in ankle straps
