I've found sitting in the sun, my blondes are going blonder, and it is kind of blending the grey. Also, I normally use a brilliant brunette shampoo, but have switched to an ordinary one, as my brown tends to fade out a bit without brunette shampoo.

Lottapianos · 26/04/2020 15:32

I'm not hiding it, just letting it all grow out. Nothing else to be done 🤷‍♀️ just trying to keep hair in the best possible condition and hope that hairdressers open before too long! No one's hair is looking the best at the moment if it helps Smile

Dickorydockwhatthe · 26/04/2020 20:01

That makes me feel better I hate admitting that I'm grey and dh seeing it 😬

Nothing to be done, just have to let it grow out and hope to God hairdressers aren't really the last industry to open up again!

MoltonSilver · 26/04/2020 21:03

I put a brown colour over the whole lot. I couldn't stand the grey roots. It was really getting me down.

Toilenstripes · 26/04/2020 21:05

I’m only washing my hair every 5 days to preserve my highlights.

dementedpixie · 26/04/2020 21:08

Im just leaving mine too

SpeedofaSloth · 26/04/2020 21:12

Mine are just growing out. My blonde was quite pale so I am using a caramel coloured toner to reduce the contrast a bit.

fedupwiththisshitnow · 26/04/2020 21:23

My natural hair is dark blonde and I have very light blonde highlights, I don't have any grey (yet).
I'm just letting it grow out, the only people seeing me are DH, DS and the dog.
I am going to put a toner on it at some point this week as it's getting a yellowish tinge now.

KittyWindbag · 27/04/2020 06:46

Can someone please recommend or link to a specific caramel/ darker blonde toner? I’m in desperate need of something like this but don’t know where to start. Can only seem to find ‘fun’ pastel colours or violet which is the opposite of what I want.

AgnesNaismith · 27/04/2020 06:48

@fedupwiththisshitnow which toner? I’m the same - tried to do a couple of highlights myself but they went a little orange....may have not left the dye in for long enough?

OpthalmosVerde · 27/04/2020 06:53

Opposite issue here as I have creative colour..... but look up “grombre” hair - it was a trend before covid!

Also could be worth contacting your hairdresser to see what they suggest to tide you over without messing up all their work.

ProtectAll · 27/04/2020 07:20

My dark brown and grey mix is growing through now as it needs doing every 4 weeks to keep the illusion that I have warm brown/blond hair. It was last done 1 week before lockdown.
It really doesn’t look good but I am happy at home with DH and DC, wear my cap when I go out for my exercise and if I have to be on a video link angle the lighting to be more of a shadow that a clear picture.
I could resort to an all over colour but will only do this if I have to start going out in public long before hairdressers reopen as I know it will be a faff and not give the result I want.

CrossFreelancer · 27/04/2020 07:34

I actually don't mind the roots as I'm not going anywhere.
However I do have something called 'Color Wow' which is pretty cool at covering them up. It's like a powder where you paint on your roots!

FinallyHere · 27/04/2020 07:49

I've had highlights/lowlights for thirty years, every since I found a few stray greys when I turned thirty. So long as I am not seeing anyone, I'm really interested to see what colour emerged. I had expected light grey but so far it's quite dark.

I'm sure and certain expectation that I can book a cut and colour before I have to see anyone in real life.

fedupwiththisshitnow · 27/04/2020 08:22

@AgnesNaismith this toner. Timers don't lighten hair though they only cover up a yellowish tinge to hair that's already bleached quite light.
If it's orange then you probably didn't leave it on for long enough or didn't use the right formulation for your hair type.

Dickorydockwhatthe · 27/04/2020 10:47

Agnes maybe just put a purple shampoo on top to take out the orange.

I brought the l'oreal wand to cover roots but it dries really hard and makes the roots look strange. Spent £8 on it should have just brought a cheap mascara

Coloured dry shampoo helps - I use the blonde one.
