Make up, too much then too little

Does anyone else find that if they put too much make up on, it is ageing and brash, but if it’s done subtly it lasts about three hours because it’s so lightly applied? I am pale and mid forties and am happy with my make up when first applied but not a few hours later. Everything apart from my base has slid off. I do have pretty oily skin but no amount of powder or setting sprays seem to help. Maybe I am just being over optimistic about how long it should last and need to be prepared to keep reapplying.

I think you're probably using the wrong products.

A good primer and long lasting products will help.

For instance the smash box 15 hr wear foundation- stays put all day. Also the Nyx can't stop won't stop - doesn't budge.

I don't wear make up very much but every so often I try it out and I have exactly the same problems as you op. Doesn't seem to matter what I use.

I use all cream products, the only powder being eyeshadow at time, although I use cream eyeshadow most days and I find it does face throughout the day, but evenly and just looks like natural skin. Massive fan of light coverage though and don’t mind if it fades.

I use the Trinny London stuff primarily which I love as you can take out the pots you need if you want to touch up, they all click together and take up hardly any space

Try Skindinavia Bridal. It's not cheap £30 for a big bottle but it's for brides so stays on all day. I am another oily lady and work in a hot building. This really works. I also recommend Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders. They are finishing powders not setting powders so aren't heavy or cakes. Over foundation ( I use Nars Longwear Luminous) it gives an amazing airbrushed, imperfection minimising, glowy look. Quick spray of Skindinavia and my make up doesn't need touching up from 6 am - 7pm.

Sounds like you need to be looking into skincare not makeup

Firstly I'm not attractive facially..but others say I am. But my plus points are niceeyes.nicelong hair and nice personality..I am 55 now and have barely wore make up except the odd lipstick..Result.I look the same when I wake up and go to sleep..I prefer to look who I am instead of a made up face..result..no crows feet..wrinkles etc and nice fresh skin..I put it down to never wearing make up and clogging my skin to try make me look something I'm not..my daughter wears little make up and thinks my skin is in better shape than hers she's 26..But as said
I occasionally wear lipstick. but lately started using Avon Fawless face cream..I've always stayed away from Avon products..but this comes in a little black compact with mirror and compartment for sponge about £6 a lot of offers around 2 for £10 check Avon ebay for best prices no need for foundations etc .light cream all in one that takes around 2 mins and makes you look like had beauty treatment..stays on all day covers any blemishes they've updated the range. I started with nude / natural now they have around 32 ranges covering right up to sun kissed look and Asian and Afro Caribbean skin it lasts for ages..you don't need anything else..then the lipsticks... Maybelline long stay lipstick matt ..matt stays on longer than silk £5.99 buy 2 get 3rd free on all Tesco make up regardless of brands. all colours..I only wear pink..finally not sure of name but superdrug £2.99 again buy 2 get 3rd free..Need nothing else except my perfume I keep at home..no need to buy all these expensive products because you feel obliged to wear make up..forgot factor 30 cream when out in sun ..can get loreal cream a £1 from most poundshops/ poundland etc...A little yellow tube of moisturiser that has factor 15 or 30 sunscreen in for days out when hot and want to safely tan..and really who would wear make up to go out during the day when its 70 + degrees

Probably you need a stronger foundation perhaps spritzing with dual purpose prime and finishing spray before and after to help keep it on and stop it looking chalky or heavy afterwards. Mac do some good ones. I find most "glow" foundations wear off me really quickly so I use a medium-heavy matte foundation, but more sparingly, and use liquid highlighters to add glow here and there on top of the foundation, instead.

People, the OP has already said that her foundation stays put so advice on foundations is not needed. I assume OP that you mean blush, eyeshadow and lipstick wear off? Lipstick always does. Eyeshadow - do you use a specific eyelid primer? Blusher - try cream followed by powder.
