Post pregnancy jeans - what a PITA

After much moaning to DP that nothing fits anymore etc etc, he pushed £150 into my hand and shoved me out the door to get new clothes.

I duly headed to the Gap (gods of all things denim), spent an HOUR in the changing rooms with svelte weirdly dressed lady bringing pairs upon pairs of jeans to me and still walked out with jeans that do NOT fit.

I knew they didn't fit when I left but she was so EARNEST and I was so bloody tired that I didn't want to let her down

They either fit on the waist and look stupid and baggy on the bum/thighs or I am all amuffin on the waist and lovely fit on the legs.

Now I will have to skulk outside the doors on Monday to check she is not working so I can return them and not ruin her fab jeans fitter fantasy.

Any ideas where I can try next? I tried all the styles skinny/bootcut, ended up with a demi bootcut, which I liked but still not a good fit.

I ended up getting a winter coat with the rest!

Topshop - Oxford Street had some really good maternity jeans. You can also order them online if you are not local to London.

nooooooooooooooooo

I like Zara jeans. Topshop (non-maternity ) jeans can be good too (and often have a bit of stretch so more forgiving on muffin tops etc).

No advice, but just wanted to say this is a large boat and there are alot of us in it. You are not alone!

spottyshoes · 17/09/2007 00:52

Dotty P!!! All the way, matty - non matty, it doesnt matter - they're all a bloody decent fit!!!!!! (I have thighs, bum and a post cs over hang btw and still rave about them)

manyhands · 17/09/2007 07:10

Are NYDJ Tummy tuck jeans any good?

empen · 17/09/2007 08:17

What are NYDJ Tummy Tuck jeans???

InMyHumbleOpinion · 17/09/2007 08:19

go for a higher waist

manyhands · 17/09/2007 08:29

They are supposed to pull your tummy in and shape your bum, both are which I really need.

webchick · 17/09/2007 09:43

I bought a few pairs of size 16 jeans in Matalan which did me a few months until I was back in my usual size 12-14s. My preferred style was the 'boyfriend' one. I then gave them away once they were too big. Also, try Asda or Tesco for some low investment.

SenoraPostrophe · 17/09/2007 09:47

m&s stretch on the waist jeans. they're ace.

also wrangler do a curvier cut than most.

MrsBadger · 17/09/2007 12:38

4wks postpartum
George at Adsa washed bootcut
Cherokee from Tesco brown denim
both slightly bootcut
both 2% lycra
both one size larger than pre-pg

am awaiting further shape change before splashing any more cash

Gemy · 17/09/2007 14:03

If I was you, don't buy any clothes if you can help it just yet. After DD1 I went off and splashed some serious cash on various things (1 pair of 7 jeans that were too big 4 weeks later) and other larger expensive items. Basically, I wasted a whole lot of money and still felt crap. Fast forward 6 mnths, bought lots of really nice stuff in size that fits including skinny jeans from topshop in size 10 (very generous around the waist) and no muffin top at all.

I'm with MrsBadger, spend at little as possible on just a few things to get you through. Put the leftover money in a little jar and see it building up, for use when you have returned mostly to your pre-preg size (then prepare to look and feel great!)

P.S I also bought some lovely silk emipire line kimono style tops from Monsoon and they covered up when I wanted them to whilst enhancing boobs and with nice expensive bag and accessories I felt good

MrsBadger · 17/09/2007 14:04

and yes yes yes to kimono tops

good cheap ones in dorothy perkins

hotcrumpets · 17/09/2007 19:37

Took them back today

I will be going to asda tomorrow so will look then, thanks for the help

I have only just realised that you were asking about POST pregnancy jeans. I am sorry. Please ignore my advise about getting maternity jeans from Topshop. I think I am just assuming everyone is pregnant just cause I am!!!!

Moneyspider · 19/09/2007 15:24

[in a very small voice] Is it just me then who at nearly eight months post partum still has an unsightly c-section overhang and looks muffin-like in most jeans?

newgirl · 19/09/2007 18:41

i got some from new look that - hula- that were a little pale for my taste but fit well and cost 12 - three months later they too big but for that price who cares!

empen · 19/09/2007 22:24

Have you seen the new Oli catologue. You can pick it up from Boots or have a look on their website. I have a pair of jeans in mind for post partum that are high waisted to hold my belly in and flared leg to balance me out.
