What do you wear in that interim period when it's too cold for flip flops and too hot for boots?

I always find this inbetween stage really pants. feet cold but still too hot for tights. Real shoes rub too much without tights. And then what shoes? ballet pumps is ok but flat. ooo is so annoying.
