Neither stylish or beautiful, but...adult headbands?

I know we all could do with a hair cut, but I was trying to grow out a pixie cut, which was awkward enough, but then came lockdown. I have fine, thinning hair and desperately need something to keep my hair out of my eyes and back from my face. I'm too old for the nice knotted headscarf ones and am looking at the horseshoe shaped ones with jaggy teeth to scrape it back a bit. Anyone have any suggestions?

I have been living in my Hygge ones. They're not like the ones with teeth you described but they stay put on my head.

FlibbertyGiblets · 19/04/2020 15:44

Get a buff. No jaggy teeth. Life is painful enough atm.

FlibbertyGiblets · 19/04/2020 15:47

A wired headscarf might do?

Thighmageddon · 19/04/2020 15:48

I've just looked and they've got a four for one offer on at the moment. I might need some more myself Grin

There are lots of different ways of tying a headband. You're never too old.

BrassicaBabe · 19/04/2020 16:12

I've got short hair. Bought some of those hygge bands. Can't get on with them. They are too wide. Even folded over several times. They look daft. Think they suit long hair much more

Darklane · 19/04/2020 16:17

Claire’s have loads of them, all different sorts or bands & wraps

Sea salt have gorgeous ones. I just got some for my birthday as I also have an awkwardly too long pixie.

Justmuddlingalong · 19/04/2020 16:21

Thanks for the suggestions. I've ordered some hygge ones. Great deal, thanks @Thighmageddon. I'm desperate, so will see how I get on and get back to you all with a review.

They always have that offer on at hygge

Time40 · 19/04/2020 16:52

Are you sure you're "too old" for nice knotted headscarf ones, OP? I can't imagine what sort of headband could be too young for anyone, to be honest.

Would hairspray work with your style? It's incredibly good at keeping hair out of the eyes.

Time40 · 19/04/2020 16:54

... oh actually, I can think of a hairband that's "too young" for me. I wanted a glittery rhinestone tiara, but I didn't, on grounds of age. Very sad.

nitgel · 19/04/2020 16:56

Thise hygges are awful ! I just use clips. Cannot get on with bands

Justmuddlingalong · 19/04/2020 17:21

I did toy with the idea of a tiara, but can't justify the cost right now. 👸

I just got carried away and bought 4 hygge bands. I then went upstairs and checked my box and found 2 that I thi k are Hygge and they were cheap and horrible. Hoping that the ones I have ordered are better quality.

Hippywannabe · 19/04/2020 17:39

I have a Seasalt Handyband too. Must dig that out.

Terralee · 19/04/2020 18:39

I have a pale green plaited Accessorize hairband.
And a black River Island one.
And a few others. I use them on bad hair days.

Lefkosia · 19/04/2020 20:18

@hippywannabe they'll have hygge printed on the edge somewhere. I was disappointed when I got mine. Just a tube of stretchy material with the company name stamped on it - they're not even hemmed - most definitely overhyped for what they are

Hippywannabe · 27/04/2020 20:03

Mine arrived today and I am very impressed. Good quality and firm hold at last.
However, in my head I look like the hippy I wish to be,.in reality I look like a wartime housewife about to tend the fields...

Oly4 · 27/04/2020 20:04

Headbands are for children surely

Windyatthebeach · 27/04/2020 20:07

When I was also growing a fringe out I tried a few on in a shop and asked dd 12 was I too old at 48. .. She told me very sincerely - mam you aren't too old for anything...
Walked out that shop on air!!
And carrying a leopard print padded headband!!
*worn at home only!!
Go for it op.

Boots had a good selection (pre lockdown, natch) of the plastic horseshoe type. Some are more comfy than others. I think they sell a brand called Goody (or something like that ) that sell comfy headbands that don't pinch behind the ears. Best headbands I've ever worn. I can't get on with the fabric band headbands /buffs , they look silly on me, and slip off. But I'm tempted to try the Hygge ones.

Monty27 · 28/04/2020 04:01

Headscarves rock. I've always loved them. They're as flamboyant as you want them to be. Like a lipstick Grin Blush

WitsEnding · 28/04/2020 07:28

I'm using clips and an ancient narrow plastic hairband that probably came from a supermarket - I've got a couple of buffs from the outdoors shops but things haven't got that bad yet.
