Which trainers are 'cool'. Please help me. I'm clueless.

ds1 really really wants cool trainers.

Unfortunatly, he can't tell me WHICH are the 'right' ones, due to his level of communication and understanding. He just knows nike and adidas, but there's loads of different types even within those 2 brands. He really wants to be like the other boys, but I don't know which are the 'in' shoes.

I have the chance to buy some nike total 90 iii tf (which look no bloody different than the ones you can get for a fiver down the market, except for a ruddy tick on the side, which I could do with a damn permanent marker ffs....but I digress.

He is different in so many ways, and this is so important to him that I don't want to mess up. (Even though I object to Labels and am doing this through gritted teeth, lol)

Shop assistants would just try to sell me the most expensive, or one they got a better deal from or something.

What shoe is the hot one in the playground for the average 8 year old?

mytwopenceworth · 14/09/2007 13:57

x post TE. Ta. they look nice to me. I really don't get the whole trainer thing. I am going to count up the recommendations on this thread and go with the majority and then blame YOU if I'm wrong.

if he is a 5 I would try and win these.

k swiss

tiredemma · 14/09/2007 14:02

no- and tbh, its a pain in the arse as it forces kids to have to have named brands to be 'accepted' in the playground, which pisses me off.

Has he said which trainers he would like- chances are most kids will have either nike or adidas, K swiss are very cool trainers but not as well known- what you dont want is for him to think that they are not cool because he doesnt recognise the name.
But if he does have them- chances are he will have the coolest feet in the playground without actually realising it!

mytwopenceworth · 14/09/2007 14:10

He says nike and adidas, because (I suppose) they are the names he hears. If k-swiss are the 'coolest' then no doubt if he had a pair, the other kids would praise him????? (i'm tempted to get both actually, pair of adidas and pair of k-swiss)

I hate this, I really do.

It's funny, because they all HAVE to have the right shoes because they ALL have a go at those who don't.... if they all just stopped...who would be left to say anything? They are all doing it to each other and all feeling crap! It makes no sense at all.

get him the Kswiss and let him be the trend setter!

tiredemma · 14/09/2007 14:20

I find it really sad that this happens though, some kids can be so cruel.

Thanks. You've all been really helpful - I know it's not the most fascinating subject in the world and I appreciate you taking the time.

Oh God, DS1 (also 8) is still wearing Clarks trainers to school. AIBU? It's not that I would begrudge buying him different trainers, but he's never asked for any!

LIZS · 14/09/2007 14:58

My boys only wear K-swiss, Vans skate type shoes and good old Converse.
Trainers are only worn when actually kicking a football about. Nike total 90 'shoot' are the ones to have, apparently.

mytwopenceworth · 14/09/2007 15:20

Oh, should say that the trainers are ust for pe - uniform policy is strict and must have black shoes.

So not k-swiss after all because they are becoming 'common'? But surely no trainers are 'posh'?? They're all about casual?

I really thought I had it, now I'm confused again. I don't want him to go from uncool to 'chavy' (I hate that word but ykwim!)

I thought those ones I linked to with the 90 on them were pretty.

Wrong word to use for a lad, I know!!

I would stick with the Kswiss MTP.
