Shorts for thick of thigh, small of waist...

Urgh why can't I find shorts that don't chop my thighs in half and bag at the waist?

I'm normally a 14, size up to a 16 in shorts so as to allow my thighs some breathing room but even then they're tight but ridiculously loose at the waist.

I'm after some denim shorts that hit about mid-thigh (sadly don't have the legs for short shorts!) and fit well. Help!

Good luck. I'm a size 20 and my idea of shorts is Capri trousers ! (It's just safer for all concerned !)

I'm a similar size and ALWAYS have the same issue with gaping waist bands- esp on jeans, trousers, anything really. I'm an hourglass shape.

I too only wear longer 'shorts', at least to the knee. On me they are just far more flattering to finish at a narrow part of the leg, rather than stopping on a wide thigh! I got some last year at M&S and others from asda which are good! The asda ones are more like cargos, but have a little toggle on the waist band which I can tighten up.

Another option might be maternity shorts/3/4 trousers. I bought a pair in error in the sales once, but they are brilliant. They have an adjustable thing on either side (buttons and elastic), so you can make the waist smaller or larger. I don't know of any specific brand that always have a small waist though. Its been trial and error for me. Good luck.

I'm convinced everything is cut for straight up and down, this way clothing can "fit" more people as everyone gets used to things being not quite right.

Matalan occasionally have them

Do you think something like this would work for you?

Next boy shorts or Tesco do good ones too. I always size up and just wear them on my hips .

Cut a pair of jeans/trousers at a length that suits you?
Raw hems are all the rage/acceptable!

I wore shorts for the first time since I was a teenager last year and sort of felt pretty good in them. I got a few pairs of linen paperbag shorts from Primark so it didn't seem like a big risk if I didn't get the nerve to wear them. I went up a couple of sizes for comfort, the waist can be clinched in and I can't bear the feeling of them being tight on my thighs. I wore them much more than I thought I would. I did have a bit more of a tan than usual. Like the OP, I am small of waist and chunky of leg, size 10-12. I just realised how silly I was being when I see other women going about in their shorts, looking and feeling fine, in all shapes and sizes, and decided to go for it.

I find I have to go a bit shorter otherwise look awful. I am short though.
