Any hairdressers about? I can put a blonde box dye over high-lights right?

Normally have full head highlights put in with Olaplex - only 4% (I think) bleach so not as bright as regular bleach highlights as hair was quite damaged - at the salon.

So it's beginning to look a bit 'rooty' and obviously I can't go there.

Can I put something like a level 9 Clairol Nice and Easy from the shops all over? I want to get it a bit blonder.

Also, just so I understand, blonde hair dyes, do they all contain bleach and just deposit the warmth of blonde you want on top?

I've heard of high lift tint so wasn't sure if it had that instead of bleach or how it works really?

I just need to be a bit careful with my hair to avoid more breakage.

Thanks knowledgable hair people

Personally I would go ombré until we get over this hurdle. My roots are coming in too. Just stagger you’re parten. If you use a box dye your likely to get canary yellow roots and gingery hair. Then what will you do lol??? We will appreciate getting our hair done after this, that’s for sure. Iv currently got roots and no lashes I look like Mira hinley Blush

Afaik bleach doesn't deposit anything. Bleach strips the colour from your hair, it's different than dye.

I agree if you get the timing wrong and rinse too soon, you could get ginger bits, or if you leave it on too long it could get badly damaged (been there, done that but was able to get a hair dresser to fix it).

When I had proper highlights, the hair was bleached then they used either a dye over, or a strong toner after (I can't remember which).

And be careful putting a brown dye on bleached hair, (in case you're thinking an all over darker colour would be easier, which tbf it usually is). It could go green (happened to a friend of mine).

I wouldnt OP, bleach can seriously damage your hair and if it gets ginger or yellow there is no hair dresser available now to fix the damage...

Wait until you can see your hair dresser again, many women will walk around soon with visible roots.

My sister did it and destroyed her hair. Embrace the roots.

I'm not a hairdresser but I wouldn't. Your hair that isn't yet highlighted- roots and strands would probably not lift nicely to the same as your highlighted hair and you could end up with a patchy mess of orange and yellows.
I also get a full head of highlights and am coming through rooty atm but I'm just going to wait it out. We're all in this together so they say. At least we won't have to see anyone

Noooo. Use Batiste dry shampoo, the one with a hint of blonde colour in to cover the roots. It works well on my hair - similar issue.

Kyliesgoldshorts · 06/04/2020 15:04

Don’t do. I promise you that you’ll have blender ends and really really brassy roots at best. You’ll wish you’d rocked those roots.

browzingss · 06/04/2020 15:25

What’s your natural colour?

The thing is, you actually need different products for your lengths and roots. You can’t just slap on box dye all over.

Your roots need to be lifted, your lengths do not need to be lifted as this will cause unnecessary damage. Your lengths need a colour deposit only, just a toner. Box dyes however contain both a developer and a colourant, meaning that yes it will lift/lighten your entire hair, sort of similar to how bleach would. It would also leave your roots with a brassy undertone, lifting hair with tint alone always does. It would look particularly bad in your case because you have highlighted lengths, so your roots would look warmer than your lengths.

A mobile hairdresser once put a blonde tint over my highlights and I had all shades of orange peach and white. It was grim. It's taken me many months to get my blonde looking natural again. Resist the urge!

browzings

Naturally my hair is what they call a dark blonde but to all intents and purposes (to my eyes at least) it is a dull light brown. I hate it. I am extremely pale (think NC10 levels in MAC make up terms) and it washes me out terribly.
