Best sensitive face wash for acne

I’m having a skin dilemma!

I have used proactiv, shipped from Canada for years. Typically, it’s run out and I can’t buy any more as the shops are shut.

I’m going to ask the GP for epiduo on Monday as that also has the benzoyl peroxide 2.5% in, but it means finding a cleanser I can safely use it it. The proactiv comes with a cleaner.

Any recommendations? I’ve tried cataphil in the past and it gave me lots of spots.

Thanks!

Avene.

WrinklesShminkles · 29/03/2020 12:45

I've used Avene Cleanance gel for years. It seems very gentle and you only need a few drops.

Pentium85 · 29/03/2020 12:48

Have you looked at Tropic?

I have incredibly sensitive skin at their vegan/totally natural cleanser is the only thing that doesn't irritate me

Ansumpasty · 29/03/2020 15:33

@Pentium85 I haven’t ever heard of it?

Neither had I until about a year ago.
It is produced by someone who was on The Apprentice.
It's vegan/natural/UK made etc.

The first line of treatment for acne after topicals is antibiotics. These kept my daughter skin clear for two years before she developed resistance. Then she went on a course of Roaccutane.
Foaming cleansers and antibiotics are both good calls for acne. There is a lot of inaccurate advice on MN.

I use the carbon theory soap, it works but I find it dries my skin a lot so I have to use a good moisturiser afterwards.

CremeDeSudo · 29/03/2020 17:43

I love the whole La Roche Posay Effaclar range - they do a face wash and more of a face cream. I use the cream when my skin is feeling dry.

Thanks, everyone!

@Antinori86 that sounds great! I was looking at the azeliac acid but I wasn’t sure if my skin would react too badly from coming off the benzoyl peroxide suddenly, without weaning, after so many years of using it.

tropicskincare.com/products/smoothing-cleanser-120ml

Hands down, the best cleanser and the best skin I have ever had.

Cotswoldmama · 30/03/2020 18:09

It’s not a cleanser and I don’t have acne but this is working wonders for my annoying spots around my chin and jawline. I’ve only used it twice and I noticed a difference after the first use! It’s cheap so might be worth a try. It does say to do a skin test first if your skins sensitive.

My son has sensitive skin and acne. He’s just started using Tropic’s Clear Skies powder cleanser and it has already made a dramatic difference. I’m also getting him their Pure Lagoon serum which has been highly recommended.

PeterPeterson · 30/03/2020 19:54

It's not really very helpful right now with the current situation out there but I've found Primark do a really good PH balanced face wash, my skin has really cleared since using a combination of that and Espa optimal skin pro moisturiser. Only problem is I'm about to run out and Primark is currently closed. 😒

ZubinB · 30/03/2020 19:54

Look at The Ordinary. Their range is great. They give good advice too. I have oily skin and sweat by their cleanser and moisturiser - never mind all their serums too. Affordable too. Good luck X

ZubinB · 30/03/2020 19:55

SWEAR by it not sweat!! Grin

I just use a plain vegan soap bar to wash my face at night.

If i have eye make up to remove jojoba oil is amazing you only need a drop.

Face scrub i use the cheapest table salt ever, very gently.

Rosewater or ACV as toner with a drop of tea tree oil or lavender oil.

The plain nivea moisturiser in the white tub (not the blue one) is nice and light.

If i stick to all this my skin stays clear which is amazing compared to how it used to be.

Avoid dairy like the plague. When i cut dairy out for other reasons my skin was vastly improved within weeks.

BullshitometerCalibrator · 30/03/2020 22:02

I'm sure I saw proactive stocked in my local Boots a couple of weeks ago. Have you checked their website?

Ansumpasty · 31/03/2020 08:51

@BullshitometerCalibrator The UK proactiv isn’t allowed to contain benzoyl peroxide and absolutely rubbish, unfortunately!

@Wavescrashingonthebeach thanks :)

I started new skincare system in December, omg it's amazing! Has literally transformed my skin after 47 years of struggling!
It works by actually re-educating your skin. It's AHA & PHA based, called Nimue. Not actually available online, but some therapists are doing facetime consultations and will post out. Where abouts in the country are you?

Grooveisintheheart42 · 15/04/2020 20:33

Their facebook page is Nimue skin uk, I think.
Or there's a salon in London who might do a facetime consultations. Google Esse & co Nimue. 😊

I have used Liz Earle cleanse & polish on mine and my DS1's skin which worked well. The ALDI own brand Lacura Hot Cloth Cleanser is very much like it too.
