Hi,
My hair is a mess!! (see photos attached). I would like to colour my hair at home however really don't know where to start. Would anyone be able to recommend a colour/brand I can order online. Many thanks x

Hmmm tricky as your hair looks highlighted which is difficult to achieve well at home if you're a novice. If it's not a standard box dye you are after, I can highly recommend Esalon. Takes a while to arrive but you send them photos of your current hair and what you want to achieve and they send you a personalised mix. It's very good quality.

If you just want a standard box hairdye from Boots - my faves are the Garnier Olia and Recital Preference ones.

Many thanks Flame Princess - I didn't know there is an esalon - it's a bit pricey but probably a safer bet than me choosing one myself - I did have a quick look in Tescos pre-lockdown and was slightly overwhelmed but the choice and a bit nervous about buying completely the wrong thing - I think I need to chill though as it's not as if I'll even see that many people over the next few weeks / months! Thanks for your reply x

Yes we won’t be seeing anyone much but there will be great difficulty getting hair appointments when salons reopen! Panic “buying” of appointments will ensue!

Second the recommendation for Esalon. You upload pics and choose from colour charts plus you can chat to a colourist

I have a referral link for £10 off that i can PM to you if you want it.

I will still be colouring my hair even though I'm stuck indoors (just less often) - if only to maintain some form of normality, but also I find it I don't keep up my little rituals like my skincare etc I get down in the dumps. It's something I enjoy and count as self care time, if you want to dye your hair to feel a bit better go for it! Smile

Also if you do bugger it up, nobody will see it Grin

Actually thought I'd add, if you are just doing roots - the Esalon due comes with the brush - but if you buy a supermarket one it will make your life easier if you also get a tinting brush so you can put the dye in a bowl and 'paint it on' and use the handle to separate your layers rather than slapping it on from the bottle. I'd watch a couple of YouTube videos first on sectioning your hair.

Thank you everyone. What could possibly go wrong?? I wish I'd paid more attention over the years as to what my hairdresser was doing with my hair than just chatting, reading glossy magazines and drinking tea!
Well, they say this a great time to learn new things so here goes...
Am I a proper Mum? - I'll send you a pm for the code - that's much appreciated especially at these difficult times.
x
