Going from natural mid brunette to golden blonde - best home hair dye?

As the title suggests, I’m looking for suggestions on the best way to achieve a sort of golden dark blonde. Hair hasn’t been dyed in years and is completely natural - a sort of mid/mouse brown.

Any tips appreciated! Thanks

I just wouldn't do it at home. If you do, be prepared for a patchy, ginger result.

It's very difficult to lighten hair as a non professional. If you're determined, watch some Youtub videos first as many discuss the science behind it and that's what you need to understand first.

I know you might think that it's easier as you don't want to go peroxide blonde but you will still need to bleach your hair to lift it...and then you'll need to colour/tone it to make it the shade you want.

Absolutely what FortunesFave said. Never try and lift more than 2 shades with a box dye, and I would say 1 shade to be on the safe side. No doubt about it, you can't do that with a box dye and it look good, it WILL be brassy/patchy/gingery. If you can live with that, go for it, but it seems a shame to do that to undyed hair. Otherwise, wait and get a professional to do it.

Don't. You can't go to the hairdressers if you mess it up - and as pp chances are it will be patchy and ginger.

As it is natural, I'd try a toner or something.

Forgot to add, I don't know if they contain particularly safe ingredients but the colour shampoos are pretty good IME.

Wait until the crisis is over for anything drastic.

I do this and use a medium blonde shade from Nice N Easy or Superdrug own. Anything with a number 8 in the shade. I go for cool or champagne tones as the golden tones come out gingery and the ashy ones don't seem to look blonde enough on me. They turn out a darkish blonde on my hair. I spent a fortune having my hair highlighted for over ten years and actually find the box dye looks almost no different and it covers my greys better as the highlights didn't go right up to the root.

Can't get any at the moment though!

If you are doing it, follow the instructions to the letter.

Bear in mind that in 6 weeks' time you will have about 1.5 cm of roots showing.

Box dye from boots etc won't lift it enough..bleach and toner will.
