What's the alternative to skinny jeans?

Are bootcuts really dead?

I've tried to keep going with them as long as possible, as they suit my body shape (size 14, bit of a muffin top and erm, comfy thighs) but even to my eyes the old bootcuts are looking fogey.

What to do?

Wideleg/boycuts have been my saviour throughout summer, as they look fine with birkies/flipflops, but now autumn is coming, what jeans do I wear with heels/boots for a smarter look when skinnies just are not made for me?

Is this a sign of ageing? Are my jeans-wearing days over? And why do shops like Monsoon make straight leg jeans with a 'waistband' that barely covers my caesarean scar?

Help!

dark denim high-waisted flares.
But i do seem to be the only one wearing them at the moment - am I a fashion leader or 30 years behind?

CatIsSleepy · 13/09/2007 13:44

knowlegeable jeans people-
can I just ask if anyone knows where somebody quite short (ok very short) could find a pair of skinny jeans to fit?

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/09/2007 13:46

I don't think I could be doing with high waisted denims - remember them for first time round !!!

CatIsSleepy · 13/09/2007 13:48

high-waisted flares were meant to be the next big jeans thing weren't they? a few months ago anyway...I've not seen a single person wearing them

can't actually see you, chippy, so I don't think you count

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/09/2007 13:55

musing more on skinny jeans - I think they won't suit me as I'm broad shouldered but narrow hipped and would look too triangular and top heavy with little pinny legs - I laughed myself silly yesterday at a young lad walking down the road in ultra skinny jeans so low down his backside that ds and I could see half of his knickers !

ChippyMinton · 13/09/2007 13:56

LOL
I'm fed up with my slouchy ones, and these flares feel so smart, with a heel.
Mind you i bought i long knitted tunic jumper thing yesterday and think i may have to fdo the skinnies & boots thing with that.

SpawnChorus · 13/09/2007 13:58

I've just bought a fantastic pair of jeans in TopShop (having trawled around lots of other places). They are described as 'skinny flares' - i.e. low waist (yet forgiving on the muffin top), slightly stretchy so fitted over hips and thighs, and flared at the bottom (not massively). I got the indigo ones. They really are great - soooo comfy and quite smart looking.

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/09/2007 13:58

thread hijack catisleepy - saw on your profile that you've read Half the Yellow Sun - I'm meant to be reading it for my book group but put it down to re read an old favourite over the summer and now I can't pick it uyp to finish - very bad of me -any comments for me to note so that I don't look a complete idiot ? (I've admitted to most of my bookgroup that I can't finish it !)

CatIsSleepy · 13/09/2007 13:59

I've been wearing boy-cut jeans all summer and I am booooooooored of them

am too short for high-waisted flares, I would look ridiculous

it's so hard to find any pair of jeans to fit though

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/09/2007 13:59

hey spawn - they sound the thing - how much, if you don't mind my asking ?

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/09/2007 14:00

sympathies cat - I think they just cut things weirdly - Boden especially

Skribble · 13/09/2007 14:00

Gok says straight leg not so low waisted apparently .

the heinously expensive 7 for all mankind jeans. they ar ethe flatteringest things ever. I still wear bootcut - though they're not galringly so - they just look "normal" to me. could be worth seeing if they have transposed their flatteringness onto other styles.

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/09/2007 14:04

that's ok Cat - my friend read it and said similar - I think I'll leave it alone !

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/09/2007 14:05

skribble - I love the 'Gok says...' - don't know why,but it made me laugh - he's fab

CatIsSleepy · 13/09/2007 14:07

but I'm going shopping tonight and everything....

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/09/2007 14:07

cat

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/09/2007 14:07

whjat about the petite section of a shop ?

CatIsSleepy · 13/09/2007 14:10

MAS, have got some petite jeans from topshop before-trouble is they only have a fraction of the selection available to all you tall people, it's most unfair

ChippyMinton · 13/09/2007 14:20

spawnchorus, you and me, the only ones wearing flares!!

Skribble · 13/09/2007 14:27

I bought a dress as recommneded by Gok and it is fab, shame I have no where or reason to wear it now , sorry I am trying my best to keep my chin up .

pixiella · 13/09/2007 14:30
