Should I colour my own hair if social distancing?

I need to get my highlights done but I'm being a good citizen and social distancing per Irish government advice during coronavirus situation.

My BIG dilemma: after years of salon dye, do I home dye? If so, do I bleach my dark roots or do I dye my bleach blonde locks brown with a home kit? If so, which home kit do I use?

Help! This is a serious dilemma!!!**

I bought a box of hair colour.
Not looking forward to
It. Last time I did it was years ago and an utter disaster.

Do you need it done imminently? Are you in Ireland? (Wasn't exactly sure from your wording)

If you are in Ireland, you can go to the hair salon, once you take reasonable precautions, are not ill, check with your hairdresser & are comfortable doing so. (This is according to latest advice, and whole section on this on Late Late tonight 🙂)

Yes and yes! I'm in Ireland and in dire need of topping up my highlights! So you're saying the salon is safe? This is AMAZING news!

Oh my good god, is the S&B board not even immune from this 🙈

I went to the salon the other day, I needed a cut desperately,my hairdresser said there had been no drop in customersGrin

It's like everything else OP - it's about measured risk.

Do you not watch the Late Late / listen to radio? 😂

If you're well, and everyone in the salon is, and you are both happy to proceed, it's fine. Take all reasonable cautions.

I have to cancel some similar appointments as I have my children with me now this week and it won't be possible to get to an appointment & have them minded. It's been grand cancelling, all places are fine & I've told them I'll call to reschedule when I know more. Happier to do that anyway.

Find somwhere open tomorrow. My hairdresser said that her salon is closed Mon/Tues for St Patricks day and they're not sure if they'll be allowed to open again on Wednesday.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I went today and got just highlights and blast dry. The salon were so good ... they had no magazines and no tea or coffee. And they had somebody going around spraying and cleaning the surfaces regularly. No cut meant a better distance between me and my hairdresser. I tipped more generously than I ever have before (€40!) because if I'm nervous going, they must be more nervous having to work there. I think they are doing a super job of keeping it sanitary. Not one cough heard the entire time I was there.

And yet, now I'm beside myself with worry that I went. Does that make me a drama queen or was I did I take an unnecessary risk going? 🙁

I don't think you're a drama queen OP. It's a worrying time. I went out for essential shopping today & felt nervous throughout & I thought I was calm & rational!

I'm glad you got your hair done, sounds like a good approach & fair play on the tip!

OP thank you for starting this but you were lucky. My hairdresser has just announced on Instagram that they're closing with immediate effect Sad. I'm in Ireland too so I guess more will follow.

I know it's a first world problem but I've blonde highlights too and I always look a mess when they grow out. I've no idea what I'm going to do - it took years to get them looking right. I really don't want to go back to my natural brown (greying) but I might have to. Any tips welcome Blush

I'm so glad someone posted about this - I have been wondering if I'll end up grey if we go into lockdown at some point.
