Teenage daughter has attempted to trim hair at the nape of her neck! Help!

Needless to say it's a bit of a disaster. She needs to wear her hair up (it's long) and I think I might be able to gel up what's left tomorrow for school, but long term is it possible to get it waxed to even it up? I don't think she'll want or need an under cut, but honestly it looks ridiculous at the moment. (Obviously I haven't told her that!) she cut the big between her ears and the nape of her neck.

Basically what do I need to ask a beautician for? I need to come back to her with a solution. She's realised the error of her ways and is really sobbing.

Please don't say just make her live with it, she's going through enough crap at the moment.

Can you not tie her hair back low at the bottom, pleat it and wrap it in a bun? Better than trying to clip/gel loose pieces.

Either that or she gets an undercut but she'll have the same pain in the arse growing out issue.

How old is she? My DNiece is 15 and they all sport something similar to this... actually look really nice but I'm not brave enough

I'd suggest an undercut rather than waxing what's left there off.
My DD has an undercut as her hair is so thick and heavy.
When her hair is down, you don't notice it. When it's up, it looks great.
She maintains it by going to the same barber as her brother every 4 weeks.

Yes an undercut will look MUCH better than waxing etc.

AwkwardPaws27 · 04/03/2020 20:20

Is it an undercut? Just tidy it up with some clippers (or ask a hairdresser to do it). Don't wax it!

CrazyHorse · 04/03/2020 20:23

The suggestion of an undercut didn't go down well (understatement) as apparently one girl at school has an undercut and nobody likes her (I'm sure that has nothing to do with her hair, but there's no arguing with teenage logic). Confused.

Can you post a photo of the back? How much did she cut?

museumum · 04/03/2020 20:32

I know people with undercuts and conservative jobs and with a low nape of neck pony or plait you can’t tell it’s cut underneath.

FelicityBeedle · 04/03/2020 20:32

Was she trying to trim the baby hair?

mnthrowaway202020 · 04/03/2020 20:34

Yeah a photo of the actual damage is needed, otherwise I’m assuming that she can just wear it down or in a low bun/pony but the reality might be different

mnthrowaway202020 · 04/03/2020 20:36

Long term gel might not be a bad idea until it grows out? So she isn’t losing more length

CrazyHorse · 04/03/2020 20:39

She's gone to bed now (earlier than usual, but she was getting really worked up so I've told her to go to sleep and it won't seem so bad in the morning)

She can't wear it in a low pony because she has trichotillomania and although she currently has no bald patches, on the whole of the top of her head the hair is about an inch long. Sad

@FelicityBeedle I can only presume so. I did ask "why?", admittedly in an exasperated way, and she told me I was being a bitch.
