Fab skin on the cheap - or 101 uses for an old muslin

Thought I'd share my discovery. When I lost my treasured Eve Lom cleansing cloth I improvised and nicked one of DS's muslins. I meant to buy a new one (at £12!?) but the old rag did the job brilliantly so I didn't bother. Then the cleanser ran out so I just used the damp muslin. Same technique of three hot and one cold compress, just no cleanser. Again, meant to but a new one but no need: the cloth takes off all make-up, incl mascara, and my skin looks better than ever. And the saved £45 translates into how many bottles of gin...?

I 2nd this - I use a muslin every day to wash my face. In the morning I use it with a cleanising balm from The Sanctuary but in the evening I just use the cloth.

My skin used to be awful - really spotty and greasy. I still get the odd spot but they clear up quickly now and my skin is usually really clear!

ooo sounds fantastic! im going to try it!!

IntergalacticWalrus · 06/09/2007 18:51

Oooh excellent!!

That does sound good. I have just started using some Lush cleanser that needs a cloth or cotton wool to remove it - I shall be using one of ds2's muslins now.

It's worth a try for free. my skin gets very spotty post baby.

Can you expand on the three cold and one hot, pretty please?

newgirl · 06/09/2007 19:47

lol at wrestling muslins from baby!! at last a positive use that doesnt focus on vomit!

Dazed - fill your sink with hot water, soak the muslin then wring it out and press (while still hot) onto your face for 5 secs. Repeat twice. After the third application, use the cloth to exfoliate. Then rinse it in cold water and apply for 5 secs. It's laborious but it works. Hard-core Eve Lommers don't use moisturisers cos she says the skin learns to moisturise itself. I'm not brave enough for that.

Let me know how it goes.

Will do - many thanks. And a muslin can go through a good hot wash, which seems like a good idea for anything going on the face.

Particularly when you know where it's been...

I used to use Eve Lom, too expensive, now use Time Delay by Boots who do a v. similar thick waxy cleanser in a tub, £8 ish, need a muslin to remove, and I think its great. It takes your eye make up off. I have wrinkly but spotty skin (weird) and it really helps.

nangnangnang · 08/09/2007 20:59

D'babe - thanks, must try it. I never normally buy products with words like 'time delay' in the title because, while it's what I'm interested in, I'm too vain to admit it.
