how do you use a foundation brush?

my magazine is running an article about foundation and it says the best finnish is from using a foundation brush. it says to apply the foundation with the brush, then blend with fingertips.
how does this look any better if you are blending with your fingers anyway?
does it actually make any difference? before reading this i just thought you 'painted' the foundation on, and assumed it would look really cakey.

what kind of foundation are you talking about? The liquid stuff or mineral stuff? I would imagine you definitely need a brush for the mineral stuff but not sure about hte liquid stuff

i have a mary kay thick liquid one. but in the article, both liquid and powders are applied with the brush.

I've got a foundation brush for liquid foundations, it's a flat brush with synthetic bristles (as opposed to a fluffy brush that you'd use for powder).

I either dot the foundation on my face with my fingers and use the brush to spread it out, or put foundation on the back of my hand and use the brush to paint it on my face. It does give a nice finish and feels nice to use, but it takes ages to do (think applying foundation using one finger vs using 10 fingers) so mostly I just slap it on with my fingers.

I agree with ZacharyQuack - fab finish but takes ages. Another plus, though, is that you use a fraction of the amount of liquid foundation (not tried with any other type) that you would using your fingers.
