Having jeans taken in at the waist?

I bought some new jeans in my usual size 10, thought they were a bit gappy at the waist, but they are a perfect fit elsewhere. After wearing them, the waist now feels huge. They are non-stretch denim from Whistles, a kind of “mom” style. I have them in a hot wash now to see if that helps, but wondered if a tailor might be able to do anything? Has anyone had the waist of jeans altered?

I’ve done this a number of times at a local alterations place. They just took in at the back which worked well.
