dh needs jacket for autumn winter

normally i wouldn't feel the need to canvass opinion on so menial an issue but we have traversed one of britain's biggest malls searching for something lightweight, smartish, water resistant/ proof, and not too hideous. every shop had basically 2 similar jackets in, all failing in one way or another. any suggestions?

Just turned 40 (therein lies the dilemma -- everything too young or too square!)
That LE one isn't bad.

CLassic, but maybe too square, and not sure how waterproof.
