help with hair products

I am growing out a very short crop and looking for a product to slick down quite thick (obviously short) hair while it grows out...
use Dax wax sometimes but find it's a bit heavy - anyone know of a product that will help keep hair shiny/slick without stickiness?

anyone?

I use a hair cream. Selfridges have loads of really nice ones by bumble and bumble.

thanks cornsilk - what type of hair do you have?

It's shoulder length but doesn't always behave itself, so a decent hair cream is an essential for me!
