LEGGINGS - are they acceptable?

I have bought a smart/posh liver and black hip-length belted top from New Look which is VERY NICE and the sales assistant said I should wear it with black leggings and high heels.

Which I am doing and I think it is great but I'm slightly worried that leggings are Not Cool?

Please advise.

ONLY with a long tunic top / dress.

Otherwise NO.

BBBee · 02/09/2007 20:35

I read it as 'liver' thought you were being all 'dulux' with your colours!

southeastastra · 02/09/2007 20:35

leggins were never acceptable

Blossomhill · 02/09/2007 20:36

Great with that kind of top. I wear my leggings all the time!

morningpaper · 02/09/2007 20:41

MP, leggings will look lovely

I loved leggings the first time around and lived in them. Am very cross this time around as (a) I am 3 stone heavier and (b) too old now to wear them. So sad.....

Wilkie · 02/09/2007 20:53

Leggings should be burned

Wilkie · 02/09/2007 20:53

Actually, they look OK on the under 20s with legs up to their armpits but if you have any kind of womanly shape then please....step away from the leggings

Hang on, hang on.

I slated leggings from the moment Kate Moss started wearing them.
However after seeing a friend in them last week, I went out and bought some and they look great!

I know I'm pregnant but I've worn them with long floaty tops and they look brilliant.

Give them a try. Sainsburys have them in the sale for £1.35

Me too, NBG. I was always very about them. I remember them from the early 90's and they were heinous. I bought some on a whim (again, cheap supermarket jobs) and they look great with longer tunic-y tops.

Mine are ankle length. I'm still very, very about the 3/4 length ones.

southeastastra · 02/09/2007 21:16

they were horrible you're all mad

what's next ski pants

NomDePlumeIsIrrationallyAngry · 02/09/2007 21:16

Mine are strictly daywear/running around tesco type. I WOULDN'T wear leggings on a night out.

NomDePlumeIsIrrationallyAngry · 02/09/2007 21:17

ski pants

[bleugh]

I had a sky blue RIBBED pair

Utterly revolting

southeastastra · 02/09/2007 21:30

that's nasty ndp. anything ribbed was pretty awful

Nbg · 02/09/2007 21:31

ribbed

[shudder]

fishie · 02/09/2007 21:41

ribbed tights are wicked, cannot wait for cold weather. they are non-laddering and so flattering. i saw ski pants in a mag recently.

leggings are insubstantial, need to be balanced with more solid garment like denim skirt or firm dress. otherwise = pyjamas.
