Is there a way to wear pleated midi skirt without looking Amish?

I really love all the longer pleated skirts around at the moment but whenever I try one It doesn’t look right.
I’m fairly short (5’3”) but reasonably slim (size 8) and I have no boobs so it’s not a matronly look but it’s not the effortlessly cool vibe I see other people managing!
God forbid I try to style them with trainers like the models!

I love midis with pleats! I probably have a few too many...

I wear them with fairly fitted tops (for work), with flats for summer and heeled boots in winter. I'm around your height and find that boxy tops don't work that well.

What kind of look are you after?

WellTidy · 05/02/2020 21:51

I’d love to wear them but I am short with a tummy and it Isnt a good look.

What about a fitted jumper? And go with colour. And maybe clashing colour. Amish people are not fans of colour!

Ah-I’m not normally a fan of colour either-perhaps this is where I’m going wrong!

Ok-fitted jumper possibly-I usually wear slouchier tops so that might also contribute to the Amish look

I'm wearing mine with a black polo neck fitted jumper and black heeled boots at the moment.

I usually tuck in a printed t shirt with mine or have a few Bella Freud printed jumpers that I tuck into the skirt. Usually wear with trainers.

I'm a similar height to you & am also failing at the effortlessly cool vibe...
I think you need a tighter top to balance out the flowy bottom possibly?

Same height and don’t suit them.
Friends who are 5’6 upwards suit them with some of the looks listed above.
