I'm looking for a dress for a wedding...

... before I trawl the net, does anyone have any pointers?

I'm going to my sister's wedding soon and am looking for a dress, reasonably casual but lovely pattern and material.

  1. Don't like my upper arms but would get wrap/shrug thing to go with
  2. Like to show a little cleavage
  3. Not short, not floor length
  4. Would like either blues and greens or reds. I envisage pattern but could be single colour.
  5. Think I would balk at over £120

ANy thoughts?

what's your hair colour skin tone etc?

MrsBadger · 31/08/2007 18:12

lovely print dresses in Monsoon atm
what shape are you?
how tall?
are you endowed with ample norks?

also some lovely things in Phase Eight but they may push the budget.

pointydog · 31/08/2007 18:13

oh, I've not got good colouring.

Quite dark brown hair with blonde highlights (I'm a grey old mare really). Pale-ish skin, a bit ruddy. Have to tone it down.

12 to 14 but more of a 14 really. I think I have to admit that.

bottom left green wrap dress

wildwoman · 31/08/2007 18:15

ooh I like that green one

pointydog · 31/08/2007 18:15

I do like my tits, medium size, lovely shape, so a cleavage focus works for me.
5 ft 6
Very broad back. Waist a bit thick, disappointingly. I'm a sturdy shape.

Tea burning. Am grateful for ideas and will return to peruse.

this would be flattering to your waist and fab for showing off your boobs!

this and this and this are my favourites. I'll try them on.

Although I think the green one will be unflattering for a broad-shouldered girl.

And I like the style of your green one, wild. If the pattern was a bit more wowy, it's appeal more. But worth a try.

(I try to avoid white or cream in a dress at all cost)

OP posts:
pointydog · 31/08/2007 20:04

ooo that's a bit pricey but nice

pointydog · 31/08/2007 20:06

oh now

tweed for a wedding??

OP posts:
pointydog · 31/08/2007 20:08

I have never shopped at lk bennett

what are their sizes like?

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 31/08/2007 20:09

[slaver] at lkbennett

tweed fine for day but might look weird at an evening bash

MrsBadger · 31/08/2007 20:10

lush

pointydog · 31/08/2007 20:10

hmmm

I do really like the look of that tweed dress.

I know. It would not do at all for a ceilidh. I'd have to sit in a corner with a long cigarette holder and red lipstick.

OP posts:
pointydog · 31/08/2007 20:11

oh that is nice. A tad plain for a wedding.

PinkChick · 31/08/2007 20:11

monssoon have some beautiful ones in i bought one for wedding ive just been too in cyprus, they did have a sale on recently dont know if still on tho?

pointydog · 31/08/2007 20:13

yes I'll be looking in monsoon, pink. I was sort of waiting for the sale to be over, into autumn.

I'm going shopping in two weeks time.

With my mum who has bad taste.

PinkChick · 31/08/2007 20:15

just caught you had seen them already!..i like the green and also the spotty one, the third i think for someone with good boobs would look frumpy, get them lifted and on display

MrsBadger · 31/08/2007 20:15

no such thing as 'too plain'
think elegant and understated
the colour makes it festive

pointydog · 31/08/2007 20:16

oh do you think, no such thing as too plain?

I suppose something simple (like wild's green one too) I could get a lot of use out of afterwards.

And I like the opaque tights, chunky high heel look.

pointydog · 31/08/2007 20:18

var diapppointed with phase eight.

coast and east verging on the bizarre.

OP posts:
pointydog · 31/08/2007 20:19

yes I think you're right about that third one, pink

OP posts:
pointydog · 31/08/2007 20:21

ah MrsB. That red dress has a bow. Want to avoid bows.
