Model Nights at a Hairdressers

Has anyone gone to a model night at a [well established] hairdressers?
I'm seriously tempted as instead of paying £150+ for a cut and colour it would cost £35. I know it would be with supervised "graduate" trainees so just wondering how good it might be (or not!). Very interested to know if anyone has been.

If it helps I have shoulder length fine hair and usually just have a trim and a full head of highlights ...

Yes I used to do this while living in NY. They loved me as I have really thick wavy hair, but obviously need all kinds of hair. I didn't have to pay anything which was great for a student! I've done it in London too where I had to pay a small fee.
But you can't really dictate what they do, at least that's what I remember.

Ive had it done a couple of times when ive been broke. Took hours and hours. I hated the colour once and once the cut grew out in a wierd way. My hair grows really fast so its no big deal if its botched a bit. If your very particular about your hair its not for you.

Thanks. Really helpful! My DH just pointed out that they decide what to do which I hadn't really thought about. And I'm not keen on sitting for hours (more than I do already!).
