Do you take your make up off and start again on a night out or just add?

Hi,

Just that really.

I usually just add to my existing daytime makeup, but am going out soon and I just suddenly wondered if this was 'normal' or if most people would cleanse, serum, moisturise etc and then start their make up from scratch.

I would sometimes start my eye makeup again, if I've been in the shower and aquired the Alice Cooper look, for example Confused

Also, I think adding more serum etc would be a bit of a product overload.

So, what is your routine?

I would usually have a shower, so would clean face before that, but even if I didn't, I would clean my face and apply fresh make-up if I was going for a night out,

Ninkanink · 18/01/2020 16:28

I wouldn’t start over. I just add a bit of extra shimmer and highlighter and a darker lipstick.

APatchyTomCat · 18/01/2020 16:29

I start from scratch, a clean face.

AllTheUserNamesAreTaken · 18/01/2020 16:33

It depends. If I’m going out out then it would be shower, cleansed face, dry hair and do make up.

If it’s going out after midweek, so after work and picking son up then it would be throw some make up on top of the old make up and a squirt of perfume Grin. That’s as good as it gets midweek

ZeldaPrincessOfHyrule · 18/01/2020 16:36

My skin is pretty dry, so if I didn't start from scratch I'd just look horrendous. I usually take it all off, have a shower, then put on fresh make up. Plus I tend to ask more of an effort with foundation and things if I'm going out.

TantricTwist · 18/01/2020 16:42

If I was going home first and had enough time then yes, shower and fresh make up. If not then simple top up.

DragonMamma · 18/01/2020 16:43

Always start from scratch. Even if I’m just going out for a couple after work. I’m in the minority as less than half of us in the team do. Most just layer up

LilyJade · 18/01/2020 17:00

It depends how much time I have!

mintich · 18/01/2020 17:01

Start from scratch

SpyroC · 18/01/2020 17:03

If time permits, I like to start from scratch.

MoltonSilver · 18/01/2020 17:04

Add a bit

MimiLaRue · 18/01/2020 17:06

I add more.

I couldn't be doing with showering yet again, doing hair yet again, makeup yet again etc. I shower and wash hair daily so its not like I'm not clean.

lifeisgoodmostofthetime · 18/01/2020 17:09

Clean face and start from scratch

CointreauVersial · 18/01/2020 18:57

I add to what's there. CBA to start again!

Zeldaaa · 18/01/2020 19:11

Depends how long I was going to be out for but in general I’d start again. I have combination skin and it can get patchy and oily as the day goes on

MinesaPinot · 18/01/2020 19:13

Depends. If it's a quick drink or theatre after work then I just top up. If it's an event or party after work then I make time to take everything off with wipes and start again. If I've got time to slot in a shower as well so much the better.

Similarly if we're at home and we're just going up our local for a couple of hours I'll just top up, but if we're going out then it's shower and start from scratch.

raisinseverywhere · 18/01/2020 19:26

Depends where I am going and how good I want to look.

If starting again then I’ll remove my eye makeup, use my wash off face cleanser in the shower. Then I’d apply foundation etc straight onto dry skin. I never use serums etc. I moisturise before going to bed and not before applying foundation.

peachgreen · 18/01/2020 19:28

Start from scratch unless I'm going straight from work.

Northernsoullover · 18/01/2020 19:28

I just add Blush

ExpletiveDelighted · 18/01/2020 19:36

Add but I don't wear much during the day. If I'm just popping to the pub with friends I'd usually only put on a bit of lipgloss. If it was a big night out I'd leave off eye make-up during the day as I can't get mascara off without taking my contact lenses out and adding new mascara over old doesn't work very well.

Itsashame · 18/01/2020 19:47

Always start again. Adding would feel v odd and not look great. My make up simply doesn’t look as nice at the end of the day and I don’t know many people whose does so putting more on would be a bad idea

Rachelfromfriends1 · 18/01/2020 21:31

If it‘s an important night out or date night, especially with pics being taken/posted, I’d definitely shower and reapply. Showering twice isn’t inconvenient, I shower morning and evening anyway.

It’s such a pet peeve of mine when I have to go out straight from working a late shift, whilst my friends get to spend hours getting ready; so look stunning whilst there I am I looking rough/basic!

I don’t mind touching up and going out, but because I have oily skin there’s a limit to how much I can touch up throughout the day before my foundation just looks strange.

dontgobaconmyheart · 19/01/2020 03:10

I always start again. I'd look bloody awful if I didn't; my skin is dry so over the course of the day just absorbs everything or starts to flake around my nose etc. Plus it feels nice to clean that all off and start again, remoisturise and have a smooth canvas.

Always very jealous of these women who allegedly 'go from day to night' with a swipe of a darker lippy Confused. Have told myself that is nonsense to feel better because I wouldn't even be fit to be seen if I went down that route.
