Find me a perfume that smells like the ones Gap used to make...

Years ago Gap made amazing perfumes with names like Rain, Grass, Clouds etc.

I forgot about them but got really excited when I stumbled across Rain by Marc Jacobs last year as it smells identical to the Gap one, HOWEVER, it's so light that it doesn't create enough scent to last and I want something that will last longer.

I've tried Above The Clouds by H&M which is very similar to the Gap clouds one but it has pink peppercorn in which ruins it for me.

Can someone point me in the direction of similar smelling perfumes? I also love Flowerbomb, La Vie Est Belle, Daisy Dream and Chanel Chance too if that helps.

Oh yes, I often reminisce about Grass. I’m parking myself here in the hope someone has a good suggestion. DD tried a whole selection (from Amazon I think) last year, storm, rain, thunder, that kind of thing. Nine came close to the fragrance and staying power of the Gap scents though.

None not nine Grin

HabbyHadno · 31/12/2019 19:50

I know @Judashascomeintosomemoney if the Marc Jacobs one had the staying power it would be perfect.

Like actual smell of grass? Have you tried the fragrance library/Demeter (available at boots I think?)

Tanaqui · 31/12/2019 21:41

Grass was my favourite too. I wonder why they stopped them?

HabbyHadno · 31/12/2019 23:21

@partysong it smelled a tiny bit like grass but more of a fresh smell. Like it smells after it's rained for the first time in summer. I can't describe the scents but they were divine and very distinctive. I wonder if there's a 'notes' list of them online? I shall investigate...

Ok grass was... Top notes green leaves and apple; middle notes water lily, grass and cucumber; base notes white musk and clover.

Heaven was... Top notes lemon, orange blossom and green leaves; middle notes freesia, jasmine, lily-of-the-valley and carnation; base notes sandalwood, musk and moss.

Dream... top notes tangerine and osmanthus, middle notes freesia, orange blossom, violet, jasmine, lily-of-the-valley, base notes carnation and musk

GAP also made a beautiful perfume called ‘om’ which I miss!

lotusbell · 31/12/2019 23:39

Love the Marc Jacob's Rain, didnt think it was available anymore though.

HabbyHadno · 31/12/2019 23:50

@lotusbell I got it from Debenhams about 6 months ago, if that helps.

@HabbyHadno, excellent news, thank you! Admittedly I haven't exactly been searching for it, having a stash of scents to get through but nice to know it's still around. I think it is some of the other Splash varieties which are hard to get now, think there was a Pear and an orange one too - kumquat, maybe.

HabbyHadno · 01/01/2020 10:35

@lotusbell they're really cheap too. Think mine was £25

I don't know what is smells like but Aran Aromatics have had a perfume in its range for years called After the Rain.

teta · 01/01/2020 11:12

Bloom sell lots of green perfumes that can be sampled and ordered online. Or as a green sample pack of several perfumes to try.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 01/01/2020 11:17

That Fragrantica site has a review that mentions Calyx smelling like Grass, I’m not sure it does exactly, but it did remind that I loved Calyx back then. Going to order a bottle as a NY treat!

RevIMJolly · 01/01/2020 11:18

I bloody loved Grass. If anyone finds one like it let me know.
Although it may not suit me now I am mid/40s rather than mid 20s.
The most kind of like it I’ve found is Day by the White Company. Def worth a sniff.

teta · 01/01/2020 11:23

@Judy I have Calyx and it's very green and fresh and fruity. It's not really grassy though. What about Mac Turquatic?
This is more a seaside aquatic but is green and lovely.

HabbyHadno · 01/01/2020 14:33

Loads of great suggestions here to sample!
